94 Protege DX doorseal issue

Hello all,
I have a 5spd 94 Mazda Protege with 125,000 miles on it and am delighted with the car.
However, I do have a couple of annoying quirks, the seatbelt lamp goes on and it beeps sporadically even though the seat belt is on.
Any remedies for this? Seems to be a sensor or something.

Another thing is that the door seals seem to be messed up, a little water sometimes seeps through and the windows get all foggy when it rains.
Where, besides the dealer can I purchase new doorseals, or is there a fix?

Great site, Thanks!

Welcome! Yeah, the seatbelt light is a problem that has plagued many protege owners. The genious mazda engineers decided to put a sensor in that makes the light go on if the belt isn't pulled out past a certain point. This wears out, and after that the light goes off randomly. All you gotta do is take out the center console and jump the two wires together. Besides, the sensor is for the shoulder strap, which should always be on anyway.

For the door, check and see if the weatherstripping is ripped anywhere. That's the black rubber that wraps around the door. If it's ripped, there's your leak. Don't go to a dealer, try a junkyard. Good luck!

Thanks for the prompt response.
I'm not quite understanding what you mean by take the center console out and jump the wires.
I'm not exactly too handy with that stuff, but feel confident that I could do it.
Is it really difficult? What wires should I jump? by jump you mean attach right?

As for the weather stripping, I was a little hesitant to go to a junk yard because I thought maybe they'd be stretched out or something.
Can you recommend any online places?

Sorry for the bombardment of questions, but think you could provide some insight.

Thanks,

JG

i'll explain a little better. yeah, you can do it, it's a real easy job. The center console between the seats is in 2 parts. you want to remove the back half, which the emergency brake goes through. to get it off, there's two screws on each side of the console. take them out and the console lifts right out. then you'll see the 2 seatbelt assemblys. in there there's a plug. disconnect the plug. now, follow the wires. the one side of the plug that goes to where the seatbelts roll up, leave alone. the other half of the plug has 4 prongs inside it. you need to connect the wires so it fools the light to thinking the seatbelt is always in. theres 2 wires for each seatbelt. so, connect the 2 wires from one seatbelt together, and the same for the other side. you can either cut the plug and just twist the wires together, or you can get connectors and jump it inside the plug.

it's tough explaining things online, i hope this helps though. if i don't make sense, search this forum, i know other people have done it.

as far as the door goes, i can't think of anyplace online offhand, but i'll look around. make sure it's the weatherstripping though before you go spending $. good luck.

do you know if anyone has pics on this?
I can just see myself messing this up, so if I take the console off, i'm going to see 2 seat belt assemblys, one for each side right?

Is there one plug for both of them or do they each have their own?
So the end result is cutting the plug and splicing the wires together?

WOW, that is exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks a lot!

So doing this shouldn't have any adverse affects on the seatbelt system right, I mean it'll still function like it's suppose to?

Everything works fine afterwords, except of couse for the annoying beep, beep, beep, and flashing light when you move wrong. It beeps when you first start up the car, but thats it.
