Can someone who has had their seat belt retractors repaired please comment on what was found to be the cause? I just purchased this car and both sides do not work.

You might want to check with the dealer on warranty. There is a very long -like 10 year 100,000 mile warrranty on passive restraint systems. A couple of years ago, I took my 91 DX to the dealer to have the seat belts fixed. The repair was under warranty required by some Federal law.
