Dave Lauzier's MX-3 trapped over 130...

Yeah. I remember reading that page like a year ago or so. I was stoked. Then the 13b towards the bottom made me more excited.

Putting in a 13b was one of the many projects I had in mind.

Actually, seeing this page again made me think about my projects again.

I want to put a turbo'd BP into my Datsun. I was going to build a second BP and put it into the Datsun, but now, I think I'll wait.

The NA engine I was going to put into my DX will provide me some fun. While I'm having fun with it, I think I'm going to fab an adapter plate for a 13B to mate to a Fseries gearbox. Once I have the engine and tranny to go ( I'm going to put an LSD and 626 fifth gear into the gearbox ), I want to move the BP over to the Datsun, put a Toda 1mm head gasket in the BP ( effectively taking the comp from 10.5 down to 10 ), turbo it with the hybrid GTX/Subi turbine/compressor, and then drop the rotor into the DX.

Waddya think?!

I think you should use the G series tranny.

No. Not really. Everyone that says the Fseries gearbox is weak is correct. However, it's weak due to the fact that it has longer gears and a diff with spider gears that tends to break under the load (there is more stress on the diff in the Fseries gearbox because of the longer gears). If I'm not launching it, which I won't, I don't have to worry about that, but eventually the shaft that holds the spider gears in place will develop some play. That is why I said I would put the LSD in. It will eliminate the entire problem, and I'll have longer gears (better gas mileage, and higher top speed with lower revs). Putting in the 626/mx6 fifth gear will increase the mileage even more. It will be a cruise gear, as if I were to be racing the car, I certainly wouldn't be using the fifth gear. ...Except maybe on hill climbs, where I would be at a disadvantage with the longer fifth gear and overall longer gears compared to the rest of the competitors. I believe though, if I were to compete in such events, I would have a spare Gseries gearbox with lower gears just for the special occasions.

A 13b in a Protege would be interesting to say the least.
