Glowing brake disc???
At the autocross yesterday, I felt like the car was kinda slow, like it was being held back. We were racing at a ski area at 3,000 ft., so that might be some of it, but still the car didn't have the usual 'snap'. I checked lots of things but couldn't find anything, so I figured it was the lack of oxygen and won my class anyway.
When I downloaded the pictures from my camera, I found this one from when my fiance was driving (she won her class, too!). It sure looks to me like the left rear brake disc is glowing orange! The course was only 60 seconds long and this is towards the end, and it was pretty fast, but that still doesn't seem like it would be enough to get the disc glowing.
Try saving the picture and blowing it up a few hundred % and see what you think. Sure looks like a glowing disc, huh? After careful thought, however, I came to the conclusion it's the other cone showing through the wheel! What y'all think?
PS - Yea, that's snow in the background. It's the same place as the photos in my sig, just not as much cloud/fog this time.

well, my guess is that it's a cone showing through....the rear rotors are not that big
although check your ebrake cables, it/they may have been stuck even though the handle was down.
Conragts on the double win!!!!!!!!

I once saw the rear discs glowing on a Buick driving on the freeway. Turns out it was a rental car, and the idiot driving it didn't realize that he had the parking brake on... for 90 miles. Actually, the pads were on fire when I caught up with him.
While I haven't seen my brakes glowing, I have seen the effects. The glow on the ground at night. I did get to see the caliper still glowing after a 110-0 stop, though. The rotors were REALLY bright orange, according to a friend who was outside the car.
I have to agree that that is a cone. Really interesting photo though.

Disciple,
I got the Cuscos (front and rear) used on the Yahoo Protege list, about 2 years ago. I hadn't seen them listed anywhere either but jumped at the opportunity because they were so well built.
For now I'm sticking with the Chuckanut events because they're close and my weekends are busy. In the 80's I did a LOT of racing down south (ProRally for several years and the full SCCA/WWSCC schedule) but got burned out on all the freeway driving.
I did one of the Slushcup events this spring, the one with 247 entrants. Maybe I'll get down there again.

We were at the Mt. Baker ski area. We've raced there for about 10 years, but this year the tree police (national park ranger) showed up and shut us down. He didn't like the permit we had and decided on the spot we were bad. He's threatened a citation to the club, too. *****!!
Glad the KYBs helped out, sounds like your old struts were shot. Just wait til you install the ZX2 struts - you will, won't you?
When is the National? I'm booked solid all July already and have family visiting from the east coast in early August, so I may not make it. There are just too damn many things to do and not enough time.

Hmm, there's a chance I could make the Nats. I haven't raced at Bremerton in probably 10 - 12 years, it would be a trip down memory lane.
Thanks for the info, maybe I'll see you there.

glowing disc
I think that's a cone showing through the wheel. It seems the same color as the cone in front of your car.
My disc brakes on my mountain bike were glowing at night. It's a really neat effect on the camera especially if you're going fast.
