Thumbs up Whats Better ?

what's up protege world, i was wondering if a 5 spd dx, is better than a automatic lx, it seems like everyone in the world has had a ton of problems with both transmisions, and i was trying to figure out which is the better out of the two. Reason being i was thinking on trading my 94 dx for a sweet 93 lx automatic.. either way let me know peoples....... thanx

who are all these ppl with transmission problems??? There may be a limited few, and thats true for ANY brand tranny, but all in all the Protege Transmissions are very good. Unless your upping the power considerably, the tranny will be fine.

my vote has always been for a 5sp....

What's wrong with teal?

And while a LX auto is quick for an 4-cyl auto, it can't match a dx 5-spd for performance or economy. The DX is nearly as fast as the LX (at least 0-60), due to lighter weight and taller gearing in 2nd.

Reasons why I'd do the tranny swap:

5-speed LXes seem to be hard to find in good condition (at least for me). Mine is in known good condition (have had it for 3+ years), fairly low miles (~115k), is close to me (most of the kinds I'm looking for are on the other coast), and it's MINE, I'd always fear I'd regret trading if I got one worse than mine.

For all you teal haters... BITE MY SHINY TEAL DX AUTOMATIC ***

I suppose your right...I just... have an attachment to this one. Like getting rid of it would be like one of those things you think about where you go: "I wonder what like would have been like if I kept my auto dx". It's stupid I know...

Yes but level 10 makes a tranny kit for 3500 that makes ur auto 3 times stronger. and shifts faster than a stick .. so that plus a GTX motor modded with a turbo upgrade i think it would see 11's :-)

So i have a question are the lx manual trannies stronger than the SE manual trannies cuz im planning on doing a GTX swap and i remember reading that you have to upgrade the axles and tranny. And a few weeks ago i went to carquest (cuz i work at a body shop and i get parts cheaper) and they said that there was no difference between the two axles. maybe i should go somewhere else to get the axles?

Thumbs up WHAT'S BETTER (THE 93 LX)

Thanks, peoples on that one, see i knew someone out there knew something about the auto. on the lx's even after all that i cant help but to go for it anyway, the lx i was talking about is on ebay the wht/93 lx. the people who have it on ebay right now are the same car dealer i bought my red 94 dx 5 spd. this car is so clean it makes my car look like total garbage. the paint is like brand new. i ran the vin at carfax it is a one owner car. i can pick the car up if i wanted the dealer is right around the corner from my crib.. only thing i was wondering was the trans. but i dont want to have any prob. with it... the dealer is asking under 2000.00 for the car.. i would say the paint on this ride was as good as gro's old white one...........
