Question what the $#@*! is this???

i have a '93 protege lx, can anyone help me...(i know most of you would hit the back button after that sentence.) ok, whenever i slow down and sink the clutch or put the car in neutral before i get to the stop light, i hear a knocking noise unless i hold the shifter up against any gear - not put it in gear but pressing against the neutral/gear border. its the only thing i can do to stop that embarrassing noise. someone told me i might have a loose clutch release bearing or need a new one. is that true? your input would me much appreciated. please e-mail me b/c i dont use the computer much but would prefer e-mail since its sent to my phone. PinoyIam@aol.com. thanx again

it could also be the pilot bearing. either way both only cost about $30, you just have to pull the tranny.....
