Venon chip

i was looking at the Venon chip today. I have a 1.6 323 and they have it for that car, but i was wondering if anyone has one or knows what it actually does. It said noticable changes from 1000-5000 rpms, but wtf does it do. They just said it increases power by 25% but does it change the redline? Would it be worth $300?

venom is basically like a unprogrammable haltec chip, am i right? basically, for the 400 dollars, you can get a decrease in fuel mileage, maybe a small hp gain, and an emmssions on/off switch.. ie you shut the unit off when you're going in for emmissions inspection. honestly, i'd go for one of these units, but the gains are so minor, i don't know if i'd actually invest the money into them. the performance shop i go to said the product advertises in some cases a nice 15% to 25% gain in horsepower by managing engine timing, fuel delivery and air intake..etc. .. which is feasible that it can perform all of these functions. they say it manages the levels each system to reasonable tolerances to the engine, but with no reguard to the emissions it's gonna put out. i mean any engine, you dump more fuel and more air into it, of course it's gonna bang a little harder and put out a little more umph. but in reality, they say the gains are slightly less than that, you MIGHT, and thats a big MIGHT gain 10% in horsepower. i think the jury is out on this one, but i'd say it works to an extent, however, look at the signatures on everyone that posts here, i have YET to see a venom chip listed... in other words, i don't think anyone in here has boughten or cozied up to the idea of a venom chip. you can do a little more with 400 bucks than that thing will allow i would be lead to believe. ask around your speed shop and see what they say. i mean, look at a mustang, i've seen it, you can easily jump horsepower up 20 or so with a chip, but you're going to shoot your gas mileage to ****. not to mention what if any adverse affects an engine management chip could have... anybody else?
peace

ps. no it doesn't change your redline.

I donno about Venom but if it's anything like the Jet V-Force chip, it won't do much good.

I was gonna buy a V-force last week and called the company to get info on specs and stuff. Turns out that all it basicially does is modify the TPS and MAF signals going to your ECU to (theoritically) better values which gives you some additional power.

Now, the sad part, and what they won't admit until they are convinced you know WTF you are talking about, is that this piggy back unit is no good once the factory ECU switches over to Open Loop mode (ECU ignores the precise input signals from the TPS, O2 sensors etc and reverts to preset WOT Maps from the factory). And lucky us, (yeah my ECU is also mazda), our ECUs switch to OL at WOT and some other conditions when we really need the extra help. (i believe over 4000RPM but i'm not completely sure about the exact spot). In other words, the piggy back does no good when we need it most.

i heard what they pretty much do is trick your engine ecu into thinking the engine is cold, and when the engine is cold it spits in more fuel to make it warm up fast. so basically just makes the engine run rich.
