Help! Half shaft wont engage....

I just changed out both my CV Half shafts and the passenger side shaft wont lock on. When I engage the clutch I hear it grinding the grooves. Did I just not put it all the way on? Do you really have to wack it on there? Everything is put back together but it wont grab. Any suggestions? Thanks!

did u get new ones? The auto and 5-speed are different BTW......

I used a rubber hammer and smacked em in pretty good, not to the point where they would damage though.....

I bought the remanufactured ones. Told them for a manual, they looked the same so Im pretty sure they are the right ones. I'll just try whacking it on better in the morning.

No, I did one side at a time. I went out and tryed screwing with it some more but to no avail. Im almost convinced they gave me the wrong part. I took it back down to auto zone and we compared the old with new. I had him measure the interior diamaters and he said they were just barly diff. But I dont know, I still think they are diff. somehow. I may just go back up there and make them give me a new one. The intermediate shaft turns when I turn the drivers side wheel, but it wont catch on the new axle, just spins inside it. Thats why I thought the ID might be off.

I just got back from Auto Zone and we determined they gave me the wrong part. It was just a little different on one end. When I bought it it wasnt in a box, just wrapped in cardboard. So it was probably given the wrong part #. The guy said when he saw me walk out with it yesterday he knew I would probably be back. Long story short I have to wait till tomorrow for the correct part. Lesson learned...Don't accept anything thats not in its box.. I should have known that.

demand some compensation .. let them give you something for free. talk to the manager, tell him that his employee knew you had the wrong part and yet still let you leave knowing that you would be back ...

what do you say ,, 1 axle free..
