Finding a ffhsss sound ;)

Hi!

When I removed the resonator on the radiator I could hear a new sound in my engin bay while revving it with the "throttle body" ?
Well, the sound come from the hole where the resonator connect... that's normal... now The resonator is back on and I still hear the same sound but at 2 places... the first is like if the stock air box was unscrewed, i can hear it poping, maybe the screws are loose, anyway I had no time to check it...

The other place is near the throttle body, (where the intake tube connects) i hear the same sucking sound....

Now, could this be because a intake tube leak, crack, or whatever? or it's normal to hear a sucking sound like if the resonator was removed? cause I didnt hear it before but maybe I just didnt notice it....

Thanks,
A proud protegé owner!!!

We are thinking of different things then. By resonator you mean the Hbox right? The small black box before the air flow meter is what I am talking about.

Check this picture out. http://www.protegeclub.com/forum/att...=&postid=72144
The resonator (Hbox) is on the very left. I don't have anything over my radiator so I am guessing that your Protege is either an automatic or a DX.

Either way, I am pretty sure I know what you're talking about.......

i have an lx 5spd and i know what he's talking about with the piece over the radiator. it isn't actually "over" the radiator, but it runs along the top of the radiator on the back side of it. not sure on the name or the function of it. it connects to the bottom of the airbox, but then there's no outlet for it.

I had the same thing on my 323, I removed it. I'm not sure about the protege, though, I haven't looked.

Yes, there is a long tube over the radiator, and no, you don't have to take it off to remove the airbox, but it does connect into the airbox, so without an airbox it serves no purpose. I removed mine as well. I've heard it described as some sort of muffler, dampener, I suppose even a resonator of sorts.
