Unhappy Error Code

Last night I ran the self-diagnostics and the lights blinked 9 times showing that there is a problem with the "Engine Temperature Sensor" as per my "Haynes Book". The only problem that I have had as of recently is that car hestitates briefly after leaving a "red light" or a "stop sign". I thought that maybe the "Oxygen Sensor" may be on it's way out but it didn't show on trhe diagnostics.

Other than that, it hasn't given me any other problems. The "hand sensor" on the dashboard dosen't appear to "out of whack" or anything that would trigger me to think there was any problem with the sensor. What would be some of the symptoms if this this sensor is not working properly.

I have a 92 Mazda Protege DX 1.8L.
