BPT Turbo Intercooler

Hi guys,
For the BPT engine, can any intercooler be used or are there only certain ones that will work? For example, will a frontmount intercooler from a 1st gen DSM work, or do we have to get the GTR intercooler? It seems to be 3 times as expensive as DSM intercoolers.

In theory, you could use any IC that would fit, but you may need to change the 'plumbing' accordingly.

A.J.,

I'm using a front mounted Used Mitsubishi Gallant VR4 intercooler.

One could even use a Skyline intercooler. It all depends on the space you have.

There are lots of companies in the States making custom intercoolers. You can try it out if it falls in your budget.

Any idea what kind of budget this requires?

By the way, looking at your mod list, that sounds like one heck of a car .

I got a FMIC from a MX6/Ford Probe. It should be here sometime in the next two days. I'll take pics when it gets here for anyone that wants to see. I'm alos going to figure out a way to mount it in the lower portion under the bumper of the stock grille.

B8 Turbo, can you take pics of how yours is mounted?

AJ,

That intercooler isn't too easy to install with the tank configuration that comes stock.. I originally used one on my first turbo project. Best thing to do is get the tanks re-welded or use a different intercooler.

The efficiency is decent...if you stay at 9psi. You will have to do a nice bit of cutting to get it to work.

David,

Prices are not as competitive compared to the States for new parts. Thus, most of the enthusiasts opt for used parts from junk shops. My I/C cost me around US$132. SS custom mandrel bent I/C pipings cost me the same and the BOV at the same cost as well. The BOV was used too.

After a while, I am hungry for more power. It just never ends.

A.J.,

I'm sorry at the moment I'm not able to snap a pic cuz I have to remove the bumper. I could try taking a pic from the bottom of the bumper up so that you could see a steel plate welded to the front of the body to hold the I/C. BTW, I sprayed black the I/C so that it's a complete sleeper. My bumper grill is originally black so a blacked I/C makes the car stealthy. It's a good way to evade cops w/ road blocks.

Well one gets a peace of mind knowing it's new w/ warranty. Used parts depend on your luck.
