Air flow meter question-again!!

While working on the car (94 Lx dohc) I was trying to free up the flapper assembly in the air flow meter (maf) and realized that the flapper doesn't have a return spring action like the unit on my Toyota. Does a good working unit have a return spring action??
I'm thinking it's still sticking, because the car will high idle like around 1500 to 2000, and when I hit the air flow housing with my fist, the idle will drop to 800 to 1000.
Any ideas??????????

if the flapper door moves freely then it's broken, as the tensioning spring is used to open and close it. It should snap closed if pushed open with your finger.

Any way to fix it, or do I have to replace it?
