323 1.6 building

I was reading in the forum and I read somewhere that someone said the 1.8 Protege head was a direct bolt on to the 1.6.

My question is can I bore my 1.6 out to a 1.8, then swap from a SOHC to a 1.8 DOHC protege head? I have a 93' 323 SOHC and I desperately need more power. I have read up on swaps, but I got the car at low miles and have babied the engine for more than half her life. I hate to see the engine go and I want to build it if possible (within reason, if swap is cheaper, then go that route.)

Any ideas? Is this possible, I know I will need probably cams, in addition to the head, and maybe some more stuff. Anything else I might need, or am I waisting my time and should just swap it out?

Any input is appreciated

Thanks!

The 1.6L and 1.8L heads are not interchangeable. The 1.8L block is basically an elongated 1.6L block. I'm not sure if the 1.6L has enough leeway to bore it to 1.8. I don't think it does.

i once had a d16 civic. i put a h22 head on it, installed the manifold from a sr20de-T, and was able to run a 100 shot. it ran pretty good - got it in the 11's. oh yeah i also had to swap in the injectors and fuel pump from a 4agze.

all the work was done at midas....

Thanks for all the info.

Building or swapping, which would be cheaper in the end?

I would think building is, but if it costs you more then I will probably go with the swap from A-spec, or BLT.

Thanks for all the info

Soooo, if we were to beleive this:
i have a 1.6 323 sohc, and i have already bored my engine out to a 2000cc and i replaced my head with the a 93' lx protege (dohc),
Why did you previously post this (in another thread):
i have a 93' dx, my head gasket blow out does any know the procedure to change it. please don't just say take the head off the block.
