17'' Rims + Rubber???

I am looking for a set of 17x7 motegi mr15s but I am wondering what size of tires to go with. 215/45r17 or 205/45r17??? :dunno:
I am hoping to drop it in the future.

215/40/17 would be closest (and actually under the diameter of the stock setup). 195/45/17 and 205/45/17 would be over, but by less than 1%.

Word of caution...a 130 HP car is dog slow with 17"rims...

Not completely true...if you have a set of lightweight 17's losses are minimal and if you run the 215/40/17 tire....you will actually be going a tad bit faster than what your speedo reads... thats why I went with the Sub-Zero's...only 16lbs each :p

Umm you know when I got my p5, I never intended it to be a speed demon. I mean its only 130hp, so my trane of thought was to have something that looked good, and I have a real big stereo. So I wouldn't really worry about the weight of the wheels too much, becasue unless you're a serious racer, its gonna take some serious work to make this car a competitor, so go with the big wheels man.

Well I guess I meant serious work for a fast car. I'm not sure what kinda bracket your friend was in, but with only a filter and an exhaust, you ain't goin be pullin any crazy times down the strip. You might gain 10-15hp from those mods, but nuthin that's gonna make your car very noticeabley fast. If you wanna get this car up into the 180-200hp range where you can start makin some good times, its gonna take a whole lot more than that. So if I'm missin sumthin about your friend's car and its makin some kinda mad horsepower somewhere it ain't comin for the mods you listed.

Go ahead and try the 215/45 17 ,,, depending on the rim you get, if you get a rim with a lip it will be just that more cushion , I usually could care less for the whole measurement stuff with wheals and tires and regulations ,, hey if it looks hot , and does not rub then you are good to go , go to a local speed shop though , try them on and see how they fit first ,

OK...lemme rephrase that...

A car geared to spin wheels and tires of a certain diameter will be very doggy off the line if you put tires on to "fill the gap"...which is what many folks here seem to want to do. Put on a wheel tire combo that replicates as close as possible the design weight, width and diameter and you'll not feel a difference...at least not until you pop that passenger front in a pothole...

You wanna feel a real hot setup? Slap on some 13" or 14" rims shod with 215/50 Hoosiers or A032s. Yow.

Oh...but such a big gap...
