Calgary Protege Club???

Hey,

Has there been any progress on this club? I thought someone had come up with a dealership sponsor (sadly not mine, I get good service, but it would appear that everyone else hates them). Just wondering what’s going on.

not really.. we don't have nuff ppl yet actaully we have like 3-4 ppl interested lol

Snype451 October-24th-2002 04:24 PM

Ok,

What (besides people) is required? What are the benifits? etc?

pr5owner October-25th-2002 12:06 AM

well we need at least 15 ppl to start the club (min) and these ppl have to be deticated, benifits are that.. we get discounts from mazda? LOL hmm, look at this site they have weekly meets

www.403honda.com

skyhawk174 October-25th-2002 09:56 AM

Hey E, you don't need 15 people. We started the Edmonton Protege Club with 9 "official" members. By official I mean that someone gives you some money and we gave them a membership card. We have more pople that could not make it so we may get up there but I would think 5 is fine for a start. The BIG thing, I believe, is to get a Mazda dealer to backyou guys up like we did with Jarman Mazda.

Form it and they will come.

mesoh October-25th-2002 11:23 AM

i have since lost interest in a calgary club as i am also losing interest in this forum, my computer, and this city..... I'm happy to just work on my car and stay out of things from here on in......

Orange October-25th-2002 08:49 PM

You don't really need anything formal like sponsorship or even membership card.

I come from the Toronto Protege Club. It started with 6 people interested in their P5's. They started chatting online, and others joined the conversation.

Now, there is a bit of structure in that there are reps for each region handling group buys, official events e.g. Darknights, etc. Other than that, most of the social events and many group buys are initiated by different club members.

As for sponsorship, there is no real expense, except if we want to get our own domain name & web site or go to any large events / shows as a group. Once there is a critical mass, the Mazda dealerships will offer discounts on services and/or parts.

I will be coming in November and I very much want to continue to be involved in a car club. If some of you are already meeting on a regular basis, it IS a club. Hope to meet some of you in November when I move to town. I am willing to help out in any way possible, or just to share some of the fun stuff we've done in the big smoke. :)

Snype451 November-20th-2002 01:14 PM

Well if people want, I can provide us some webspace etc. I have a server at home and/or via shaw..

Broich November-20th-2002 10:25 PM

let me know

Let me know, i'd be interested in meeting others to see cars and the mods on them.

Orange November-20th-2002 10:55 PM

Well ... my car finally arrived! It's sitting in the train depot right now. I am hoping I can pick it up before the end of the week. Perhaps a welcome meet for me & I can share some stories from toprotege.com (aka Toronto Protege Club)?!

I'm up for that, except not this weekend. I need to go to edmonton.

mesoh November-21st-2002 08:04 PM

Mesoh,

You keep saying that (I think that this is the third time I've read this from you) and you're still here. Are you in or out...nobody likes a fence sitter. :P

actually this is the first time i said this, and i have no intention of starting or participating in a calgary protege club. i still come here for the purposes of asking a few questions and antagonizing people,

why?

mesoh November-21st-2002 11:49 PM

i don't want to repeat my frustrations, i just have issues

KubaSpeed November-27th-2002 05:54 PM

So you guys are the Calgary Protege Club? I might be comming out there in a couple of weeks. My dealership is having a walkaround contest on Proteges.
Winner gets a all expenses paid trip to Calgary.
Who do I call when I get there?

Orange November-27th-2002 11:14 PM

Walkaround contest? Can you explain how that works?

There isn't an official Protege Club in cow town yet, although I do hope it starts very soon. Best way is to post your itinerary on this board & we will arrange something.

I am still awaiting my welcome party ...

KubaSpeed November-28th-2002 02:31 AM

In Winnipeg there is a group of dealerships (4 to be exact) all owned by one guy. One of those dealerships is a Mazda dealership where I work. Every year each dealership has all their salesman do a 6 point sell walkaround contest. (a 6 point sell is showing a customer, or in this case a couple of judges all the benefits and features of a car.)
The best guy from each dealership goes to the finals and competes against the other 3 best guys.
The salesmen at my dealership had to do walkarounds on Proteges and I won. So I need to go to the finals this week to compete in front of the owners of the company (the judges)
The winner of the finals wins the trip. :D
I really want to win because I love Calgary. I used to live in Banff

When did you live in Banff? I was born and raised there.

Broich November-28th-2002 07:23 PM

so did i.

I lived there as well. From 93 to January this year. Seven years in banff and two years in Canmore. I know a bunch of local kids from both places. how old are you?

pr5owner November-28th-2002 08:20 PM

I'm up for it.

I guess there are a few things we should sort out.
  • Is there going to be a hierachy (pres, vp, etc)
  • website
  • dealership association (do we still have the one with north hill?)
  • meetings (schedule/location)
  • random other things I can't think of

just my .02 cents.

I'm 25. In '93 I would have been in grade 10. My parents still live out there and my brothers go home to work in the summers.

Broich November-29th-2002 05:36 PM

Banff and the Calgary club

What's your last name? Do your parents work or own anything in banff?

The club thing would be cool, but a regular schedual isn't easy to do for most people. I think RPM would be cool with helping out, i've dealt with the owner Roberto numerous times. Sunridge is also cool with a club thing help-out.

alcoholiday November-29th-2002 06:44 PM

i'd like to be involved in something.

unfortunately, the last couple things in the calgary area i was unable to take part in, mostly due to scheduling.

also, i honestly don't have a lot of knowledge or anything to contribute. and my car's stock so there's nothing to show off either.

i like looking at everyone's cars though and i've love some actual driving exercises.

pr5owner November-29th-2002 07:59 PM

im work @ Kramer mazda and im sure i could get the manager there to do something... or help the club out.. but i think we need a few more people. ive seen SOOOOOO many pro5's and sedans on the road but none of them are on ANY mazda forum/club

Orange November-29th-2002 11:32 PM

snype - In TO, many car clubs like to hang out at Timmies in the suburb 'cause they usually have big parking lots & not everyone drinks. Folks from toprotege.com do hang out at other places, e.g. Dave & Buster's, bubble tea, etc. There were excursions to strip clubs & christmas dinner is also coming up!

I guess when in cow town, the place to hang out is a pub or a timmies. Another place I can think of is Pete's (not during meal time!). But I only know so much of the city ... Where do other car clubs hang out?

Perhaps we should do something before the holiday hits, while we still have the nice weather ...

alcohol - Your sig has lots of mods, more than mine! You are definitely not stock. And even if you are, that has nothing to do with being in a club!

90210brandon November-30th-2002 01:16 AM

OK...What the hell....I leave and quess what....I quess, I left so what the. Everyone wants a club. I quess that tells me...I might have been the problem....

Well, to get people, we need to get organized so when we put the word out, there is a noticiple benefit to joining the club. If nothing else some advice on mods, tips, technical stuff, etc.

Orange is on the right track with finding a place to meet. I would think since we are a faily large city (relativly speaking) that we should try and find something quazi-central for conveniance, heck even the stadium isn't too bad.

when you and mesoh are done with the pity party stuff, let us know.:D

90210brandon November-30th-2002 10:42 AM

Pity...Pity...Pity...OK done. Thanks. If 'you' need a dealer, try Northhill. I have a list set up there, and anyone can put there name down anytime but (you might as well, even if you done use that dealer, it doesn't matter ((they don't need to know)) where you live), the more the merrier. What I remember, I at least set it up to get 15% off, parts I believe, labour dunno. Ask for Ron (the parts+service manager). Tell him your with the Protege Club (tell him I set it up with him, he should know). Then negotiate more if (I am sure) what you want!

Orange November-30th-2002 11:14 AM

Sounds like we will get discount from North Hill & potential discount from Sunridge - that's a great start!

I need to drive around today shopping for some household items. (Yes, I am not unpacked yet.) I will keep an eye on a good meet location. I'm thinking somewhere central along 16 ave n ...

starbucks by northhill mazda is a good meet location

Broich November-30th-2002 09:10 PM

rpm

I talked to roberto at RPM racing and he said he'd be in for a sponsorship type thing. From shows to organizing club track days to discounts etc.. He actually bought a p5 for his wife.

Sunridge will give us a discount as well, but on labour i don't know, i doubt it.
But for installs on performance items, rpm will do that shit. I've been in the back and the shop is super clean and professional. They actually just got a contract with Mitsubishi for aftermarket upgrades on brand new lot Lancers.
