Block heater?
Should I get a block heater installed in my MP3 before shipping it to Calgary? I was told by a few people that I need it for the Alberta weather. Is this true???

I think that a block heater is a good idea to have in our winters, but I would only use it if is very cold -20 or colder, some people start pluging in there car as soon as it gets below 0.
On a side note "motors" are electric;) protege's have engines:) Jim |

I was waiting for your slip...:D. It's an engine, there is egg on your face now. Did I mention...RTFM? No motor,...engine. God I leave a simple life to beat this to death. Right, 90&00 ? As for the block heater, I have not plugged mine in as yet but I don't think it is really cold. I have noticed however that when I start up in the morning for my warm up, the heaer fan squeals until it settles down. Must be the cold. |
Time to get out for me: For my daily walk.

Thanks for all your input. I have ordered the block heater & my dealer is going to put it in on Sat.
I will wait till I get to Calgary before I get my 16K service done. I assume the service folks at North Hill should know which motor oil works in Calgary winter? |

Right, 90&00 ? that was kinda rude. anyway, as for the block heater. yes, if it's going to be sitting outside at overnight or long periods during the day, you'll want it. |

Originally posted by MAZDA44 On a side note "motors" are electric;) protege's have engines:) Jim 1. an engine that makes a machine go: an electric motor, a gasoline motor. 2. an apparatus that converts electricity into mechanical energy by the inducing of an electrodynamic reponse which causes a part (the armature) of the apparatus to revolve. 3. =internal-combustion engine There are other definitions, but those make the point. The next time you want to be a smart-ass, please make sure of your definitions. And Proteges have plenty of motors in them, by any definition. |
