I'm still in and just waiting on this money! If I dont recieve it by tomorrow I'm probably gonna go into my old work and ask about it!

kargoboy December-16th-2005 09:11 AM

Sending money today--Silver for me, please.

Leonardo December-16th-2005 12:17 PM

OK, wait......for a non-technical car dummie like me, what is the vacuum block for? is it necessary? i have the money ready, but now with the added options, i don't know what to get. will the egr fix be included?

Roddimus Prime December-16th-2005 01:05 PM

the intake manifold has vaccuum ports on it for your accessories like cruise control, map sensor, etc.. This manifold was designed for other vehicles, not the protege. When you try to re-hook up your vaccuum fittings on this new manifold they won't match up. You'll have to either run new lines or splice lines etc.

With the vaccuum block you will run 1 main line from the manifold to the brake booster and the block will go inbetween there. It has multiple barbed fittings that come off it and you just plug your stock lines into the block. Done. (after capping off all open ports on the manifold). Much easier to wire everything up.

Ken@ProtegeGarage December-16th-2005 05:40 PM

i have three manifolds on the workbench right now and a fourth one on the way in. as payments come in i will order some more. we're going to put them through a comprehensive cleaning and reconditioning process before anything else. there are plenty of vacuum ports on these manifolds to run the old lines to, but the vacuum block could make adding additional vacuum sources (MAP sensors, boost gauges, etc) and re-working older ones easier. i'm hoping to have these ready to ship by or before christmas.

as for the EGR fix, i may not be able to include that for free. i wasn't able to secure decent oem tubes from my suppliers, so I will be contacting mazda about getting new ones. its fairly easy to build an EGR solution for these on my own, and will throw that in for free if the cost is not prohibitive on my end, which i cannot expect it to be.

thanks everyone so far, i think you will all be pleased with the results and final product!

OT, yes, but I've never heard of ANYONE actually getting a ticket for loitering. Are you kidding me? I gotta hear that story.

atticus1398 December-18th-2005 06:48 PM

$ pp'd yesterday Ken

Roddimus Prime December-18th-2005 10:42 PM

ken told me he's had 4 paid and he's got 4 manifolds... was anyone going to do powdercoating so I can start prepping. I need to oprder new powders this week if so.

atticus1398 December-19th-2005 06:10 AM

just paint for me

Leonardo December-19th-2005 01:14 PM

paypal sent for intake mani, gasket, and vacuum block. painted red please, no powdercoating, money is getting tight for christmas. thanks!

atticus1398 December-19th-2005 09:13 PM

matty,
you know if turfburns thermal spacer would work with these?
thanks,
shane

Roddimus Prime December-20th-2005 01:11 AM

i'm fairly sure it would....they are both fs-de intake manifolds and all bolts and ports line up.

byohnd December-22nd-2005 02:38 PM

is the gasket/port matching wourth it, if you do not do anything to the head? would this cause a lip where it meats the head or does the msp head have larger ports already?

Roddimus Prime December-22nd-2005 03:15 PM

the MSP is IDENTICAL to every other protege with the exception of the turbo and ecu. Nothing else was changed (engine-wise).

Gasket matching is ALWAYS good. If you want the best gains you need to also match your head when you remove the stock manifold.

Ken@ProtegeGarage December-22nd-2005 09:57 PM

i am working on the manifolds of everyone who paid right now. please have patience with me through the holidays as i hammer these out! thanks!

Ken@ProtegeGarage January-6th-2006 02:20 AM

hey all, sorry to be incommunicado ~ these start shipping monday. with the holidays the way they were and my attention to detail, i wanted to make sure i was shipping product you all would be happy with!

atticus1398 January-6th-2006 06:37 AM

excellent, Ken do you have a current list of whos who? I never got a response after I paypal'd.

Roddimus Prime January-8th-2006 02:12 PM

yeah, an update would be helpful.

I need to know what/ if any manifolds I'll have to coat so I can get colors ordered.

jrodhotrod January-10th-2006 04:36 AM

Hey Ken,

Any of these left at the $149 price?

Without reading the whole thread are you offering a solution for the EGR pipe?

I am really interested.

-Jared

sweetlou69 January-10th-2006 05:30 PM

hey matty, no one has requested, through me anyhow, powdercoating. we are doing atticus' here unless he'd prefer a powdercoated VS a paint finish, and skyhawk wants red but i am not sure what kind of finish he'd prefer either.

i'm not taking any more orders right now - i got a ton of orders and want to get those complete before i backlog myself and hurt anyone's expectations by making them wait too long! i'll take more orders soon, no fear!

jrodhotrod January-11th-2006 02:23 AM

Ken,

Just so it's here, I am in whenever you are ready for some more orders for the whole deal.

BTW, it needs to be said that Ken @ Protege Garage is one of the best vendors in the Protege market, hands down. I respect the way he conducts himself as a vendor and as an active member of the community.

Roddimus Prime January-11th-2006 02:30 AM

sounds good. Ken, just call me if anyone wants coating and I should have the powder by the time the manifold gets to me. I'm going to be doing a lot of parts real soon so I thought I'd knock these out at the ame time.

atticus1398 January-11th-2006 06:10 AM

sounds good Ken.
yellow paint is fine if you have it.
egr pipe and if you have time: gasket match it and i'll PP you the difference before you ship it out. no biggie if you can not.
thanks,
shane

^tyrant^ January-12th-2006 03:24 PM

Ken, i have been waiting for you to reply to my pm about payment.

And im getting mine coated.

Roddimus Prime January-12th-2006 03:47 PM

try giving him a call Ron. He always answers his cell phone or calls you back pretty quickly.

i sent you a PM back, did you not get it? in any event, your payment came in fine as far as i recall

Ken@ProtegeGarage January-12th-2006 09:05 PM

something to whet everyone's appetites;

http://www.msprotege.com/members/Cap...5/P1011064.JPG

this is the final product that will be shipping to you guys. sharp, eh? :)

as for the EGR solutions, i really really wanted to include them for free, but it doesn't look like thats going to happen. the pipes that came with the manifolds were cut or mangled beyond use or repair. there are three solutions.

1) i am shipping each manifold with a threaded plug that blocks off the egr pipe hole. you can transfer the EGR valve over to the manifold and plug it in, then block the fitting on the exhaust manifold with a threaded cap (5/8 inch i believe, two dollars max at Ace Hardware). This is fine with one caveat - the check engine light (insufficient EGR flow) will come on. this does NOT affect how the car drives, but does render it unable to pass an emissions exam

2) for $50 i can send out a new pipe from mazda. i make ZERO profit on that pipe, thats my absolute lowest cost (in fact, that is DEALER cost).

3) for $30 i can send out a solution devised by another forum member that consists of fittings and flexible natural gas line. or i can send you the directions as to how to do it and you can source the parts locally.

again, i wanted to include EGR for free, but the options and the price i set for the GB made it impossible.

Roddimus Prime January-12th-2006 10:50 PM

looks great Ken.....p.s. how much beer do you need when painting a manifold?!?!

If it were me I'd pay the $50 for everyone to have the OEM part. It's not a bad price and we know it works. Thanks for helping out.

Ken@ProtegeGarage January-13th-2006 01:19 AM

so many people have made comments about the beer box....
