July 18th meet

Looking to set up a meet. Protege BBQ 03! Thinking about Como Park (becuase of size and such) but other places would be good if there are better locations that one can think of. There's a good park on Rice Street that I like also but my knowledge of parks s pretty limited.

Tentative itinerary:

5-6p arrive at park, get grills set up BS a bit
6-8p eat, BS some more play volleyball or bean bag toss ( if anyone has a setup for this anyway)
8p-whenever we drop, cruise midway or other likely popular spot.

I think by nature, we'll have to do BYOB and BYOF, We can use the grills in the park so someone might want to vollunteer bringing charcoal or we can just bring our own.

BTW anyone interested is invited, including Noobies, and people just interested in getting a protege.:D

Mark_02DX July-4th-2003 08:57 AM

Sounds good. Should we maybe do a pot-luck kind of thing?

jlanger July-4th-2003 09:18 AM

Something like one person brings chips other brings beverages, etc. Sounds good but the only problem with that is that everyone who says they're coming has to show up! Sometimes that can be difficult to do as people have a lot of things going on these days.

Mark_02DX July-4th-2003 09:37 AM

Good point. BYO it is.

Kopp0041 July-6th-2003 02:34 PM

35 looks and only three people in?? Come on lets get a good meet together and have some fun. I'm in.

AlexMack July-7th-2003 05:25 PM

sorry, id be down, but ill be in dallas on the 18th..

Matt Buechler July-8th-2003 11:06 AM

I'll also be attending :)

sileighty21 July-8th-2003 01:13 PM

normally i work on fridays, but i don't work a single one this whole month! i'll be there, maybe see if my girl wants to come also. then we can have some real eye candy:D

Mark_02DX July-8th-2003 08:18 PM

It's sort of ironic that I'm going to a car thing at Como, which is easy walking distance. Hell, I can SEE one of the ball diamonds from here.

jlanger July-8th-2003 08:27 PM

So I guess Como is the place? We should pick a lot to park at or otherwise We'll get lost. Mark as you're so close :D I vote you to scout and give us an exact address so we all can meet as that whole area can get a bit confusing to find certain places. (btw thanks for volunteering;) )

Mark_02DX July-8th-2003 08:37 PM

That's what I get for opening my big damn fat mouth...OK. I have a few ideas already. I'll go check sometime this week & find a good spot.

jlanger July-8th-2003 08:51 PM

thanks Mark! Give me a yell if you need any assistance.

bud_d July-9th-2003 04:42 PM

Hey just found out about the meet, I'll be there, prolly a little later however :) I don't frequent this forumn, but am actively on mazdamp3.com:)

jlanger July-9th-2003 04:50 PM

bud_d you got an MP3? I saw a MP3 on univeristy parked at Saxon Ford with a bunch of other pretty sweet cars but felt a little wierd about stopping to say hey.
There aren't too many MP3's around here for some reason, at least none that come to the meet. Feel free to invite the TC/MN crowd from there if you'd like. I suppose I should go on the mazdaspeed and MP3 sites and invite them shouldn't I.

QQT July-9th-2003 06:25 PM

If I could I might come even though I don't own an Protege, since not many other 6 owners on the forums to organize a meet in MN.

jlanger July-9th-2003 10:45 PM

QQT you were at the last pro meet weren't you? you're more then welcome to come.

Kopp0041 July-10th-2003 09:08 AM

I still want to find out who was driving the MSP Jim and I saw get pulled over on University near Porkeys. We were on our way to Prokeys after a meet just for the fun of it, and heading westbound there was an MSP pulled over, I think he saw us, and I pointed at him and laughed. It was a great site, Proteges getting noticed. Anyways, I would like to know who that was.

Kopp0041 July-10th-2003 11:18 AM

I could always go and get some cheap business cards from office max and print our club logo mark did on them. What do you think about that? Hey Mark, can you send me the logo design? Preferable in it's original form so I can resize it accordingly?

John, when is the next autocross??

Kopp0041 July-10th-2003 01:31 PM

I'm going on the 20th!! And I'll see if some friends will go.

jlanger July-10th-2003 05:16 PM

falken azenis mounted on the miata rims
Sweet.

Sorry I'm just to chickensh## to do the autox yet. A bit too worried about insurance, waranty etc. One of these days when I can afford to crash/wear out tires etc. I might do it.

It's a Corel Draw file, but I'll make you an EPS and a TIFF. One of them should work for you. I'll do that sometime tonight.

That sounds good, I should be able to find a graphcis program that I haven't used in a while to resize the image. Just email it to me, I'll pm you my address.

About autocross, Marie still doesn't want me to race the pro, so I'm coming to watch, I have a few freainds that might come and race a GTP and a Corvette.

bud_d July-11th-2003 10:01 AM

I've see a yellow and a blue mp3 in the TC area quite often, and seen others scattered. There is also a black MSP and an orange MSP i see once in a while. Speaking of the orange MSP, last time I saw it....

Nice story over there, do you think you and some of the other members on the board would be able to meet up on the 18th?

Matt Buechler July-14th-2003 12:35 AM

I saw a blue mazda speed protege around Maple Grove Days, I dont know if he was there, but I was going to challenge him but my turn was up ahead (wink, wink).

I'll definently be there this weeked. Got a nice Menards mod up sleve, you guys will be impressed :)

Kopp0041 July-14th-2003 08:44 AM

A Menards Mod huh? Have you been talking to Big John?? Should be interesting.

Matt Buechler July-14th-2003 08:34 PM

Yeah, i dont think its working out too well, i dont trust it :)

Kopp0041 July-14th-2003 09:28 PM

It's worth looking at.

I've got business cards with the club logo on it ready for distribution, I printed 100 for us, I'll bring them on Friday. Do we have charcoal, lighter fluid, etc? We're just suppose to bring something for ourselves, and a pack of stuff to contribute. If we're suppose to bring stuff to contribute, I think we should have a rule, if you don't bring something, you don't get anything, just to be fair and all.

sileighty21 July-15th-2003 10:08 AM

i know i said i'd be there but i just got free tickets to the twins game on the 18th. but i will see what i can do about coming to the autocross on sunday.

Kopp0041 July-15th-2003 10:35 AM

TWINS?? I hope they stop playing like shit! Thhat's probably the reason you got free tickets huh? ;)

sileighty21 July-15th-2003 12:24 PM

yea i don't know what the deal is with the twinkies. i sure hope they get their act together after the all-star break.

jlanger July-15th-2003 05:18 PM

I volunteer to bring charcoal, if someone will bring lighter fluid. I think a 5-10lb bag will work. For all you kraut lovers, I got a can of kraut to go with the brats, there's no way that I can eat the whole can, as my wife would have to leave the apartmetn for a bit :o so you can certainly have some.

Matt Buechler July-15th-2003 07:03 PM

So we are bringing stuff for everyone? Not just for ourselves?

Matt Buechler July-15th-2003 07:54 PM

I'll bring the lighter fluid :)

And where is this place? Como Park right? can someone give me an address so I can look it up on mapquest :) thanks

Mark_02DX July-15th-2003 08:06 PM

aaaaaAAAAAAGH!!! Dammit! I just found out today I have to work late all week. I can't get there till about 7:30 or 8:00!

Can somebody else get there to stake out a spot? I was going to, since I'm right next door, but my @#&%$!!! boss has other plans. I'd suggest somewhere along Horton Ave, between Lexington and Hamline (follow Como east from Snelling, it changes to Horton after u cross Hamline) There are grills & picnic tables all along there. There's a smallish parking lot too, or u can park on the street all along there. I'll post a map in a while.

Oh, and John, I have a banner that I made up for Rev It Up, it just never got put up. I'll bring it.

I need a new job...:(

Kopp0041 July-15th-2003 08:14 PM

I forget, what time? I'm almost positive there are some grills along the road towards the Conservatory. Can someone chack out a spot? I think we'll need some sign to where were at. If we could have someone post their cell number, people could call them if their lost and not just go home.

There are some good roads by the U, like E. River Road, just a thought.

jlanger July-15th-2003 10:33 PM

So we are bringing stuff for everyone? Not just for ourselves?
I'm just offering to bring charcoal adn cooking utensils. I'm only getting a small to medium bag of it so if you all want more bring some. I just thought that as there probably won't be more then a dozen of us, one bag of charcoal should be ok and that since I started the thread, I'd bring one. As for other stuff, if you want to bring it that's fine, and I'll leave it up to you if you want to give it to people who don't bring stuff or not. I don't want people to feel like they have to bring stuff. I know budgets are tight now with the economy goign down the tanker and all so bring what you can and what you're comfortable with.

aaaaaAAAAAAGH!!! Dammit! I just found out today I have to work late all week. I can't get there till about 7:30 or 8:00
Nice excuse;) I'll just have to yell at your boss a bit. Oh well, I'll try to scout out a place before Friday.

and what will we do once it gets dark? I DO want to have a group cruise, but we need soemwhere thats got some fun twisties or the like
That is a good idea, don't know exactly were to go, lexington can be quite twisty and exciting but a bit crowded, we can also check out the missippi road down near highland park, that's fairly twisty, Kopp suggested E? River road by the U? Other ideas would be good.

So far we got me, protege menace (thanks for posting on the other boards for me btw), kopp0041, Matt Buechler and possibly QQT, Mark might be able to show up later?

If anyone needs a phone number to call PM me and I'll provide one for you, please don't give it out and I won't post it on the main board.

bud_d July-16th-2003 01:51 AM

I'll be their too however I work until 630, and gotta run home after that so Im guessing 730-800 is when I'll show.

sileighty21 July-16th-2003 10:37 AM

how late is everyone planning on staying out there? if i go to the twins game, i should be outta there by 10 at the latest. any idea what you guys will be up to then?

Kopp0041 July-16th-2003 04:22 PM

I think we should plan on staying at como until 8:30ish, and then go out. I'm planning on being out untill 11:30 when I have to pick up my wife from work, but we might hoock up with you guys again if your still out and about.
