Acceleration is way fast now... I'll see what I can do, we can caravan up there, I live right on the 14 freeway and I think that heads out towards buttonwillow up the 5 right?

I don't have a helmet either, just 5 pt harnesses... I'd love to spin my car again on the hard braking corners =) My brake pedal feels kinda mushy right now so I think I need those stainless brake lines...damnit....another $100...

Keep me updated...

I'm going up late Friday night, after my GF gets home from work. Planning on staying in a motel at least Friday night. You need to find a way back to the 5, as the 14 goes the wrong way (northeast), unless you are talking about going south on the 14 and picking up the 5 before heading north.

Spinning isn't recommended, unless you can do it and keep it on the track. Four wheels off is a DSQ (stupid safety rules).

Mushy pedal is more likely a good reason to bleed the brakes instead.

Damn, i didn't think Buttonwillow was that far, 165miles from me!!!! ummm, about 3 hours each way.....

once again the car gods drop a bomb on me

Oh well, i'll just wait for the next one. as i only have sunday to race....and have to be back by mid evening.

Good Luck David!!!!!!!!!! (and you too Braden, if you make it up there)

Time for a turbo! Heh.. I'd go with some Struts and Springs, and a set of 18" TE-37's..... Then a set of swaybars, tie bars, and some race tires....

mazdaspeedwest October-28th-2001 01:37 PM

well, i'd start with window tint and an alarm, then move on to suspension and engine mods :p

Welcome Zack. You should cruise out with us next time we hit LACR.

Well, you guys missed a FAST event at Buttonwillow. It was almost like running a Solo 1. I was in 3rd gear twice for a long time both days. The average speed was about 60 mph. With my tired engine, top speed was a little more than 75mph. Top STS cars were quite a bit over 80mph. The Z06 Vettes were at 95+mph, and I'm sure the BP RX-7 turbo was past 100mph.

I got killed because of the long straights. As it was, STS killed DS/ES/HS, and was only about 1.5 secs off of the GS ITRs. (60 sec vs 58.5).

The next two autocrosses in the LA area are at Hollywood Park, in Inglewood. The dates are November 17th practice and November 18 championship and December 8 practice and Dec. 9 championship. The difference is seat time. At the practice, 10-12 runs is typical for $40. The championship is $20 for members or $35 for non-members. Although as a student, you can join SCCA for $25/yr and race locally for $10.

Check out our website, solo2.com, for further details.

What up? I'm in San Diego

Just moved out in Sept. I live near where the 8 runs out. It would be cool if we could do a meet somethime. I'd be down.

Do any of you guys know any good shops down around here that deal with engines and turbocharging? I've got the "kit" from Knight Turbos but can't find anybody brave enough to work on a Mazda F-series engine!

mazdaspeedwest November-20th-2001 10:32 PM

Hey David,

it is David right?, you where in AZ before? Silver G3?

anyway, i thought that turbo would have been boosting by now.... i'm sure we could get that thing in there for ya, now that your a few 100 miles closer :D

ZackyFarms16 November-21st-2001 02:00 AM

awesome, thanks guys, yea im down for sure to cruise out to the races or whatever. Ive never been to an autocross so ill probably watch a few times then try it out. I also want to wait till i get some good mods even though you cant do much to the MP5 right now. So, keep in touch, im currently saving up for a snowboard rack(winter is coming), and rims and springs. Keep me posted on events and what not. THanks a grip peace..

For those interested, come out to the practice on Dec. 8th at Hollywood Park and you can either do 10-12 laps yourself, or go as a passenger.

I plan on going, to see if I can figure out my new 1" rear bar. Stupid thing has me understeering more than before.  Could be the two new front tires though. Those Azenis' need to wear in a bit to become sticky.:D

The one and only

MSW, Oh I'll def let everybody know when the turbo is boosting my 99 :). There have been quite a few snags in the road though. First the shop that was going to do it in Tucson didn't like the choice of pistons and some other things. I was also going to use a S-AFC but I read that it won't work with the ecu throughout the whole rpm range ( so now I gotta sell it ....uhh anyone interested in a S-AFC??). Oh yeah, and then there was that whole issue with lack of income (unemployed). I've taken care of that, now all I need is a shop that is familiar with the FPD/FS engine. Any ideas?

also, are you an 3genner or MP3/P5 guy?

Probably not. I'm not much for spectating, unless I'm competing. And unless they have 17.8 sec bracket racing, not really worth it with the Protege.

I still have a bunch of work to do on the thing anyway.
