Mazda 3 aircon not repairable

Hi there has anyone ever heard of a Mazda 3 air con being not repairable. The fault is electrical and has been traced back to one of the two main ‘controller/circuit boards” that run the car. Apparently if it is one of these the whole cat needs to reporammed etc and it’s horrendously expensive! Any experience with this please? Georgie

As an ASE certified mechanic... that sounds like bull ****. There's just about nothing on a modern car that is not repairable, with enough time and money anything can be fixed. As someone from Alabama, I can't imagine anything A/C related to be not worth fixing for the cost. Worst case scenario, if you grenaded your entire A/C system by say, having a severe leak allowing water to corrode the entirety of the system, the $3,000 a dealer might charge would still be worth it. If, however, your entire HVAC module failed and required reprogramming, it should still not cost more than $1,000, Frankly Mazda should cover it unless it's caused by water or rodent damage. Looking at it there appears to be a TSB for this faulure that may be caused by a poor ground on a fender ground, I'd go ahead and inspect for that.

Hi Michael, thanks for the advice! The car had extensive repairs awhile back. It seems odd that it took six months for the problem to arise though. I agree, I can’t live without aircon in Australia. I willl show your document to Mazda when it goes in shortly. I doubt whether they will cover any costs though. Sadly. Thanks again Georgie

Hi, it wasn’t that. Unfortunately.
