I'm occasionally getting a TCM errors, weird shifting, and the AT and traction lights when intermittently. After some research it looks like my TCM may be bad. I'm wondering if the TCM needs to be paired to an individual car, or is it possible to swap one from a junked car?

If so, does the year need to be the same? Can it be replaced with a TCM from a 2013, or a 2011, or a 2008? What about from a 2.3L?

There are a bunch of Mazda 3s at my local U Pull It, but they range in years.
