‘12 3i 6spd starts to sound like a Diesel engine going 60 mph and up, must be in 5th or 6th gear. If I shift down to 4th, the sound goes away.

I don’t think it’s the engine, because I can’t make the sounds if I am sitting in the garage just holding the gas pedal.

As I said earlier, it goes away in 4th, I can’t try 3rd at those speeds.

Ive played around trying to figure it out. When I hear it, I have let off the gas and let the car coast some, and the sound goes down. When I accelerate it comes right back.


Car has 110,00 miles on it. Engine has never been above 3,500 rpm. Oil changes once a year or near 25,000 miles: I’ve used Amsoil signature series since the first oil change at 1,000 miles. Transmission fluid changed at 100,000 miles with Amzoil 75w90.
