Hello All,

I've recently bought a second hand Mazda 3 TS2 Diesel, I've just opened the bonnet and it isn't a pretty sight! Please see the attached pictures and comment with your thoughts on what could be wrong?As I was driving it home a half way on my journey a small puff of white smoke came from the exhaust (I thought this may be because it has been sat idle for a couple of weeks) But when I got home I checked the engine and it was very very hot (however the temp gauge didn't indicate anything wrong)

Image 1 is of the plastic engine cover right? Mine has some white fiber insulation material, probably a fiberglass or cotton mix, not sure what it is.
