Talking Brand New Protege Owner

Yes I finally got it! Yesterday I bought a Protégé ES with GT package in black colour. But before I left, the dealer offered an assortment of extends warranties.

BTW I picked up a no rust lifetime warrantee for 400 dollars that covered all body (internal/external) and under body parts.

But back to my original question...there was one that looked good; it's an 84month/160km for $1450. As I plan to keep this fine automobile for the long term I figured this would be a wise investment. What do you guys and gals think?

First off welcome to the family.....make yourself at home, the fridge is stocked with all your favorite cold drinks....take your shoes off....flop on the couch and relax. :{D

Not sure about the extended warrentee...but considering where you live...and how much salt they use on the roads....the rust protection was probably a wise investment

definitely....my poor pro's rear underbody/suspension esp is rusted why?? 5 years on Montana roads...

the extended warranty MAY be worth it....esp if a few major things like the AC gives out; then again you might not even have to use it!

the dealer offered me a bunch of warranties and extra packages when i bought the car. i said no to all of them except for the window etching and a something elese so if someone steals my car they can track it down. i thought about getting other things and decided not to cause i knew i would be voiding the warranty very soon (nitrous in the near future ).

You should get a copy of the extended service warranty contract and compare it to online warranties from warrantydirect .com and 1autosource.com. Check if it stacks up. (Check carbuyingtips.com for more info on what to look for). Make sure the warranty is administered through Mazda and is not a generic aftermarket warranty. If it is aftermarket, you can shop around and get yourself a better deal.

The other thing is you usually have upto six months to a year to buy the warranty on a new car. So it might make sense to check out the car first before investing in the warranty. Finally check if the warranty is refundable (at least pro-rated) and preferably choose the 0 deductible option.

Welcome aboard!

Something else.....IF you buy it now it will certainly be added into your LOAN....thus you are paying interest on that money as well....and you can always purchase the extended warentee later.

there was an $800 discount on the sunroof and alloys pkg for the LX. It came to around 240$...was a nobrainer. My dealer sucked and I had to do all my research by myself. Consumerguide.com was a great resource in this regard.
