Engine rattling in 01 SE

Engine rattling in 01 SE
I searched for this problem but could not find something exactly the same.
I was driving out of a parking lot when i stepped on the gas I heard this huge rattle in my engine and the car started to sound like a tractor. This happened in 10 seconds or so. I parked and popped the hood, I can hear clearly something metal (came loose, broke) rattling somewhere in the engine or below it.
When I pres the gas pedal while going from a stop or a slow speed the engine sounds like an loud old tractor, when I get to speed and add a bit more gas the noise is not as noticeable. No loss of power noticed.
