New Tires

I have a 01' mazda protege and i am trying to think of what kind of wheels to put on there, does anybody have any suggestions??

Welcome.
First, check the fitment guide in this section. Tirerack.com has good deals on wheel/tire combos and their customer service is excellent. Also, they have a nice visual aid so you can see what the wheels will look like on your car.

You will get all kinds of answers to this question. But I am partial to my Yokohama AVS ES 100s as a summer tire.

I've got 195/50-16 Kumho ASXs on my '03 P5. Not the stickiest tire in the world, but I drive a lot and I'm pleased with them overall ... they're responsive, quiet, balanced with very little weight, and seem to be wearing reasonably. And they are inexpensive.
