I notice that when I'm slowing down to come to a stop, my brakes make these scraping sound. Now I knew that my brakes were wearing down and I changed them just recently but sometimes I still hear that scraping sound. My mechanic said that the brakes are fine but I need a 2nd opinion.

Also my brakes squeak when comin' to a stop sometimes. Is there a way to get rid of that? It's very anoying!

 

The noise could be a few things. Go out and buy a Hardware kit for the front breaks and brake lube. I'd take it back to the guy that replaced them and have him check the rotor. See if there is room to have it turned. For those who don't know that means cutting the rotors to streighten them out. Have him put the lube on the brake shims and make sure the rears are adusted. That SHOULD fix it. Or you just got some bad pads.

 

I think it's bad pads and I REFUSE to go back by that guy for him to do anything to my car ever again.

I found another mechanic who I asked about it and he said that the guy bought cheap pads and put them on.

But is there nothing I could do about the noise except wait it out until I need to change the pads again?

 

Well you need to fix it, because grinding is not just bad pads, that usually means something serious is wrong. Just take it to your trusted guy and ask him what to do.

 

What he said. If your getting a noise from the brakes thats because something isn't right. Believe me I use to run a break check! If you can put on a CAI you can change out the pads. Just make sure you do what I said in my first post.

 

Ditto the above. Find the problem.

One thing not mentioned too much on this board that is very important is keeping the slider pins on the calipers well lubricated. Use some brake caliper grease or anti-sieze and I suggest making it an annual thing in the south and twice a year in the northern climes to redo. You don't want a caliper that is frozen on those pins.
