Fuel Pumps - how long do they last?

I have a '90 Protege LX with DOHC and the bigger fuel pump than the sohc. The car has 220k on it so the fuel pump probably has almost 5000 hours on it. Has anyone replaced these? I am considering elective replacement, but I would like to get a feel for how long they normally last.

My luck, I would replace the old pump
and the new one would fail. I'd leave
it alone.
