Am I Wrong.....

Got a question for the public...

Ok I am US military currently stationed in Belgium. Over here we do not have some of the luxeries that I miss in the states. I love watching movies. Weither is Carmike or Blockbuster I love to watch movies. But I do not have that option over here. So I buy most of the movies when they come out(if we get them on time) Over the past 2yrs I have developed a pretty large DVD/VHS collection. Now every once in a while someone in the neighborhood will ask if they can borrow one of my movies. I got no problem with that. No more that 2 at a time. But I got a friend that I have know since Basic Trainning who is the same rank as me and makes the same money as me that constantly comes to borrow movies. It is getting on my nerves. Especialy when he sees me buying a new DVD and tells me to my face " let me know when you watch it so I can borrow it" At first it was cool cause it's my hommie but now it is F***ing annoying. Can I tell him know or would that be selfish?

Could you tolerate inviting him over when you watch it instead?

Or, just be straight with him. Tell him just what you've told us. If he's your friend, he should really be cool about not encroaching on your stuff so much.

ask him when he's going to start buying movies so you can "borrow" them.

honestly though, I don't get bothered by needy people...people call me up all the time to borrow my tools and what not.

IMO, I don't think there is any way you can tell your friend that this bothers you without
sacrificing at least part of your relationship. People are just too defensive and thin-skinned.
If you are annoyed enough that you are willing to risk your friendship, then tell him. but if not, just let it go.
At least he's not bugging you to borrow the EVO all the time...is he?

Do what I do me and my friend have something that we like to call the CD exchange program but this only works if you have a burner. We take turns buying CD's and DVD's and exchange copies. Its not exactly legal but who gives a crap anyhow.

Never include the sentence "it's not exactly legal but who gives a crap anyhow." when talking to someone in the military/police force

Anyways, i don't see why you would be pissed? If he gives them back before too long then it wouldnt really bother me. But if you really dont like it just sarcastically say one day "so when do i get to barrow one of YOUr movies! " sarcasism is the key to not sounding like an

I probably would opt for the sarcastic remark as pointed out above. Usually followed by a 'look' or the obligatory 'rolling of the eyes'.

Well I think I have to take your BUNK BUDDIES (inside joke if your not military) side. I mean you were buying or going to buy the DVD anyways. If he didn't ask to see it you would still spend the same amount on it. Are you mad at him for not paying or mad at your self for buying? Don't be so sensitve (?), you got what you wanted and you get to help a buddy same a little cash all at the same time. But there is nothing wrong with you havin him buy the beer!

One last thing. If my friends from basic or my old unit needed me to do something I would in a heart beat, no questions asked. If he is willing to give his life for yours then how the hell can you complain about him wanting to see a movie you were already gona buy?

Suck it up and drive on!

^^ I understood you only cause my pops was 20yrs ARMY

Going down range with someone and letting someone bugging the **** out of me about my DVD's is two different things.

Its all good. I will get over it and live to fight another day.

Ah, old school... I figured as much... I've only been in for 2 yrs.
And, no, they weren't nearly as tough as I expected. It was still tough though!

^^It all depends on where you went to basic at. If you was at a male/female basic you never really went to basic. It was more like joining a frat than the military. No hard feelings but we still fight the same fight so does it really matter? I have only been in for 3yrs but since my pops was 20 yrs it feels more like 23yrs.

I give respect to anyone thats a vet, no matter what when or where!

I do understand the fustration you have, I suck at talking. I was just saying pick and chose your battles. This one just don't sound like it would be worth fighting.

But coming on here and complaining is a good way to get it out with out causing any damage.
So lay on the couch a tell the doc what is bothering you!

Hey I also wanted to tell you keep up the good work, your doing us all proud!
Both of you.
