Ok Ive had my brakes squeeling for quite some time now, summer at least.

I know the rotors and pads are prefectly fine, practicly new.
So I asked around and Im getting that its just brake dust, and I have to deal with it. Now I dont want to deal with it, becuase this is embarassing.

I find that after a hard stop, everything is ok for a time. But in heavy stop and go traffic, which im in all the time, this crap is just killing me.

Any ideas? Some lube or something on the caliper maybe?

 

I always use a product called "syl-glide" on the back side of the pads. It's basically a lubricant jelly like vaseline. This prevents pads squeeking in the caliper....if you have brake pad dust causing the noise your best bet is to change to a "dust-less" pad like the Raybestos Performance plus. I loved those.

 

actually "vaseline" itself works just fine...but you can get the brake pad anti squeal(goes on the back of the pad) for like $0.89 at auto parts store

 

yup yup....I just find it's less of a joke-oppurtunity to keep syl-glide on hand as opposed to vaseline.

 

The anti squeal will help. Sounds like the base issue is that you are getting vibration at colder temps. I say this as after you get some heat into the system, the metal of the backing plate expands to fill in the gap between the caliper and the pad. If this doesn't help, I would say it would be a friction compound issue. Might want to try then an Akebono ceramic or other ceramic pad.

 

or just get better pads...they wont last long, but they wont squeal.
