The "search" button is your friend.

Ebay speed chips are a rip. there is no chip for the mazda ecu....ever.

swapping ecu's for another mazda model is useless unless you get a MP3 ecu. it has slightly advanced timing and should provide about a 5whp gain.

the protege ecu's are junk. This is true. In order to fix it you should by some sort of stand-alone fuel management and have it tuned on a dyno. There is a lot of power to be had from tuning alone. Wagner took the AEM ad modified it for the protege. A stock P5 on 87octane and only a road tune (no dyno tuning) showed an increase of 14whp 10lb/ft (numbers may be slightly off). this is with no timing adjustment or high octane fuel. With 93 octane, bumped timing and corrected fuel curves I bet you'd see a 30hp gain just from tuning. Thats the difference between a P5 and a MSP.
