thinking of getting one of those ebay chips for my protege es-gt 2.0L... What does everyone think? I want to gain HP but am a little tight on cash.

you'll **** up your motor...don't do it.

 

Don't do it, you want to pick up a few HP, then be smart, go out buy a K&N airfilter, +2HP right there, you care will breath much better, pick up a cold air intake system will take one a few more,

and if you want to start emptying your wallet just a little bit you can pick up an exhaust to compliment your intake. your 2.0 engine is pretty good as it is.

 

The "chip" is a 15 cent resistor from Radio Shack.

 

What do those K&N filters go for? Just an approximation please???

The flat panel filters are available from Canadian tire. I paid $50 for mine, but usually they are $70-$80.
