Cool 2002 P5 Stero what do you think??

just wondering what everyone thinks baout it because I have heard some people say it's not that great for power etc.. and I am wondering if the old owner put in new speakers because ours goes pretty good my one buddy who is an audiophile was impressed that it didn't ahve a sub and was a sock deck, but we are getting a sub and oribabky a new deck just because it seems to skip a fiar bit with burnt cds..

It's good enough for me. I usually don't listen to music loud in the car...safety reasons and all that. I really think I only intently listen to news and Yankees games, actually. Plus...I like to hear the engine rev and I rely on that more than the tach.

I'm an audio engineer (ex, professionally...just extra cash now) and I never payed any attention to car audio. Always seemed a waste since the sounfield would always be horrible and I'd never like the fidelity given the background noise. I've heard a supposedly phenominal car system that cost over $15,000 in a Rolls and still thought it was no match to my studio. To me, it's like watching a DVD on a 9" black and white.

YMMV...I'm obviously going to be in the minority here.

Well, I think it's a lot better than stock systems generally were say, ten years ago, but it's nothing to write home about. The speakers certainly aren't great, but I tend to lean at least a little toward Buttersideup's point-of-view; I just don't see dumping $1000+ into a car stereo. I'll probably replace the stock speakers with something slightly better (Infinity Reference or BA, most likely) but I'm not likely to do much more than that.

Yep. I always believe that when buying anything, there's a sweet point where you get the most bang for the buck and spending more than that will only give you diminishing returns. Once that point is reached, your money should be better spent on something else.

And most importantly, I wouldn't want my $1000+ car stereo system stolen by some bastard (sorry, but it really sucked -- just a head unit, but still I was pissed).

Of course, this is MHO, and what you do with your hard earned $ is your own business

The stock system is okay, but the speakers are paper and will only get you so far. Plus they'll need to be replaced when the paper disintegrates, which is inevitable.

I spend a lot of time in my car, so the system is fairly important to me - and the fact that I like it loud. Can't really enjoy Tool's latest album on the stock system - some stuff just needs to be pounded into your head with loads of volume.

$1000 can get you a very nice, budget system, including a deck, door speakers, and a sub and amp - none of it top-of-the-line, but you can get a HUGE improvement. I spent about $700 total and got all of those components, including a Kenwood 8017 deck that plays MP3s. It's not the best sounding system on the block, but it'll blow the stock system away. It is addictive though - I'm already looking at what to swap out first - but you can do very well an a budget and get it to sound much better.

Just MHO.

I put $3500.00 worth of stereo in mine. It ROCKS, plus i can watch the news and DVD on the way home from work. The time goes by quick with a boomin system.

Does watching DVD or TV while "driving" (ahem...if that's what you call it) make you a cool guy?

Makes you one of the countless ******** I see every day who can't drive for ****, and don't even try because they are too busy chatting it up on the cell phone and tuning in CNN.

Get your own roads to kill yourself on, and leave innocent people alone. And go spout off about your useless expensive toys to someone who gives a ****.

$3500??? DAYMN!!! I'd rather add a turbo to my car, get some nice wheels and add an exhaust! (again, that's what I would have done)

Hope you have a good security system, I mean a security guard next to your car 24/7/365

Ummmmm....no comparison to watching a tv screen, sorry.

And for the record: cup of coffee, that's it- I don't eat and drive.

And fortunately, I can pick up my coffee mug, take a sip, and put it down in the cupholder without ever taking my eyes off of the road. No way can you compare that to watching a DVD - maybe you'd like to stop contributing to this thread, because you have no defense, and there is no logic to watching TV while driving - end of story. The more you say, the more ignorant you sound, so please stop it.

So, "yeah, yeah, yeah" yourself.
