out tire rod end replacement

Hi! I'm glad to have found this forum. I
have 215K miles on my Pro now and have
a 180 mile commute to work every day, so
it's starting to take a bit more effort and
know how to keep her running.

I'm trying to replace the outer tie rod end
on the driver's side. I've counted the
number of turns on the old tie rod end and
threaded the new one on the to the same
spot, however, I could not get the tie rod stud to go into the steering knuckle; it's at the wrong angle and as it came out of the
box the stud won't budge. It loolks like if
I, um, modified it a bit with a hammer it
would be at the right angle. I don't usually
"modify" parts unless somebody who knows more than me says to! I'm open to
suggestions.

You should be able to move the tie rod 'stud' by hand. Takes a little effort, but do-able. Practice on the one that you removed -- it should be really loose.
