Hi gang. The first 94 Protege I owned had a damaged engine without the seller telling me. The problem manifested itself a month later. I had bought an extended warranty from a third party seller for it before I knew of the problem and they were forced to pay for a new engine from a Mazda Dealership. I had put about 44,000 miles on that new engine when a guy took a red light and crashed me on the rear, right side. The engine and transmission are exactly the same as before the crash and the front end is just fine. It has never been driven since that time since it can't drive due to the rear right crash. The engine has occasionaly been turned on so as to avoid it seizing due to lack of use. The driver's side is fine and the passenger side front door is ok. Trunk lid also was not damaged. Many parts for sale. Most around $50 but, ofcourse, the engine and transmission will be in the hundreds of dollars. The car still turns on and you are free to confirm that in person.
