Recall Question

Just wondering if anyone has had thier 3rd Gen or Protege5 recalled for anything? What car do you drive & what recall (if any)

I havent had anymuch more except a few upgrades during regular maintenance. I had a different clutch pedal rubber stopper upgrade as well as a fuel pressure regulator when mine was replaced under warranty.

I have a feeling that the Protege and the "5" are following in the footsteps of many other reliable Mazda cars. Mazda is well known for a lack of recalls needed...meaning a better designed/built car?!!?!

What I ment by upgrade was that Mazda is nolonger using the original part it has been replaced with an upgraded part in the catalogue. The upgrades I have had were the cluch pedal rubber...it's a different size so when the clutch pedal is up (disengaged) the pedal sits differently?
The fuel pressure regulator I have is from a FS-ZE motor, if you go to the parts dept. and ask for a fuel pressure regulator for a FD-ZE, they will give you a regulator from a FS-ZE because Mazda had problemts with the one from the FD.

'99 Mazda Protege LX-Touring Edidtion
1.8L/5spd
no recalls
warranty...fuel pump, catalytic conv, fuel press reg, coil pack, lots of light bulbs (5), rear sway bar link.
Rear door seals as per TSB#09-99-04

I think he is saying that he got it from the FS-ZE engine.

There could be a ton of recalls, only very isolated. At my dealership there are about 10 good sized active recalls right now, with about 30 small ones. At any place there's a good amount of recalls, and I bet Mazda's no different. I ran the VIN for my friend and a car for him on our Chrysler side, and his VIN popped up 7 recalls. None of them were really important, and none ended up applying to him...only because the recall window for those was about a two week period for build dates in some, and other random issues.

Sorry I got my letters mixed...I have a 1.8L in a '99 Protege, and the fuel pressure regulator is from the newer 2.0L Protege. Again sorry.

When a manufacturer has a recall they must contact the customer, because they usually pertain to safety or emissions. I figured if anybody has been contacted that might let us know the details, but by the lack of posts they couldn't be very big, like the Focus. How often do you here of Mazda recalling 500 000 vehicals for a design or supplier oversight? How many recalls does ChryCo or GM have that appear in the papers/news...a few times a year!

Recall or TSB?

are you talking about an actual "recall", or a "Technical Service Bulletin"? im sure you know the difference, but i was just wondering though. because i still screw up sometimes and see a "TSB" and think its a recall.

Hey RebelRacing. Since I've got the exact same car as you, I might be able to offer some info.

The only thing that I've got replaced was the door of the keyholes.

To make more sense, if you look where you put your key in, the tiny little door is made of plastic. Anyways, after about 1 year, the driver side door (key door) cracked, and broke. When I went to Mazda, they said there was a recall, and they fixed all the keyholes to metal ones.

I dunno if this is what you're looking for, but yeah this is what I can think of so far.

Oh and they also did something to my engine, where the spark plugs are. I'll take a pic, and show you.. I dunno if its like this in your car, but its not in any of the newer Proteges,
