You can find a plethora of information using the Search button in the top right hand corner on synthetic oil. All the questions you asked have been debated, and it always boils down to preference and opinion.

Me.

I use Mobil1 right now in my P5, but will be switching to Amsoil 2000 0w30 after I complete an Auto-RX treatment.....Still debating filter.

From various postings around the Internet, that should boost my MPG by a mile or so and decrease some of the wear #s. However, if any tries to say that you HP will increase or other miracles...laugh at them and sell them a bridge in New York. Mostly synthetics:

1. Last longer
2. Keep engine cleaner (though some good dino ones do the same)

The 0w-30 is what yields more MPGs.

hey madduck and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have.

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

hop over to the engine/drivetrain forum and you will find TONS of stuff on this subject......

i first switched to synthetic with my first oil change around 4000 miles. i get better gas milage out of the car and read a study that said mobil 1 retains its much viscocity better than other dino and synthetic oils. i use purolator or purolator one filters, just make sure to stay away from FRAM! hope this helps

Wink

I'd use OEM if you can get them...otherwise Mobil1, Amsoil, Royal Purple, Redline, Schaeffer's, SuperTech (with Lube Control added) - it's all good.
