camber bolts - anyone else chewing up tires?

camber bolts - anyone else chewing up tires?

ok... So after a year or so of having my H&R's on w/ my 17" wheels... i'm starting to chew up the rear tires. I've had a shop here look at it recently to replace the front hub & bearing which were shot after my accident in January. Well, they told me I could throw a set of camber bolts on the rear, and fix the problem. So, I've ordered my SPC bolts and they should be here this week to get installed. Has anyone else had problems with lowering their car? The H&R's are only a 1.5" drop.

A good aligment "should" put your car back into specs and not chew up your tires. 1.5" insnt that drastic a drop to require camber bolts IMO. Ive never had a problem with my tires. Lets see what others have to say.

i thought the same thing... but it's recently been aligned. i even took it to have it aligned, and they said it was aligned right. maybe my car is just stupid or something, lol.

The rear camber on a G3 Protege isn't adjustable except as a side effect of adjusting the toe. The toe is adjusted using eccentric bolts at the insides of the rear lower TTL links, but these bolts should NEVER be used to correct the camber because you will throw the toe all out of whack in the process. You WILL need camber bolts to adjust the rear camber independently of toe.

However, that aside, I totally agree with two other statements in this thread...
1) I have never heard anyone else on this forum complain that a drop of only 1.5" caused a big tire wear problem in the rear of a G3 due to excess negative camber. At the FRONT, yes, but not at the rear.
2) CHECK YOUR TOE.

Also, these tires haven't been recently rotated from the front, have they?

well, i thought the same thing about it not being a problem since it's only a mild drop, considering no one else has had problems with this. well, this is just shitty. jesse, i'm not sure of the readings.. i can't find the alignment sheets around here anywhere. i may have trashed em in one of my cleanings. and carguy: no, they've been on the back. well, i guess we'll see if it's just the shitty shop that did the alignment a couple months ago when i get my new tires and an alignment. i wont have em put the camber bolts on, if it's not neccessary.
