Egr is it worth blocking it

I know on my talon blocking off the EGR was a free mod. If I block it would it throw a cel? Has any one done this?

More details on this please! What will it do? Is there a way to prevent it from throwing a cell?

it would probably cause more harm than good. if a egr valve is blocked and the ecu is still trying to pull from it and there is nothing to pull, then you engine will stall

removing EGRs do not cause the engine to stall. This practice has been done for years. It'll keep your intake manifold a little cleaner.. you should also try a catch-can from the valve cover if you want your intake manifold even cleaner.

Um, does someone want to explain this please? For example, how does it work? Instead of "it feels faster..."

The EGR recirculates exhaust gases back into the intake ... yes it sounds stupid but that's what it does. This is intended for better emissions. Taking out the EGR prevents exhaust gases back into the system, which makes intake air cooler.

Hey Jo

Hey Jo how ya been? I 'm thinking of doing it to my car.
But I was wondering if it would throw a cel. I guess I'll just have to do it and see for myself. I figure every little bit helps.

So Jesse, what are the advantages of it exactly? I know it's not "free" horsepower, as you'll end up ******* something somewhere, but there has to be a plus?

EGR allows for lower combustion chamber temperatures which not only lowers emissions of nox gases but also allows for more aggressive timing.

If you are getting a CEL because of the EGR, you will be getting less performance from your engine due to the fact that the PCM will default to less aggressive timing maps to prevent your engine from pinging.

One thing to note is the EGR is operated off vacuum which is usually only present in the manifold during idle, decel and light cruise. During medium to full accelleration there isn't enough vacuum to open the EGR and the computer won't call for it anyway. Blocking it off will net you 0 extra horsepower.
