Cool Pets

who has cool pets?
i used to have an arrowana (about a foot long) b4 it jumped out of the tank and died. the arrowanna was pretty graceful but kinda boring. replaced it with an oscar (also about a foot long) my fish will KILL anybody's fish. he's a punchy fellow, which is why i like him. "oscar" is a bad@ss fish. i'll post pics later.

what u guys got?

Back when I had a tank, we had like 5 or 6 happy little fish. Convicts, Silver Dollars and a few more, all in happy harmony.
Then came "Oscar".
Two months later, we had ONE fish...a big, fat, mean Oscar!
We ended up selling him for a handsome profit, if I rememder...

These days I've got a big old Himalayan cat and a red Australian Cattle Dog, or Queensland Heeler...Just like Mad Max's dog!

ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY OSCAR! i love throwing in feeder fish (comets) and watching him play with them for a bit. few months ago we threw in 8 crayfish (crawdads to u southern folk) and for some reason, the biggest one went after oscar like HE was the boss. over the next week, oscar would push him around, and be a pest, ate all the other 7 but left BOSS alone. then when all were gone, he tore boss's two pinchers off and bit off his tail...but never ate him.

hey, when u guys post ur pets, tell us why they're special. btw alcy, that is a pretty cute bird. u need offer no explanation.

Oscars are cool fish.

My first job was working at a pet store. We carried all kinds of exotic fish, and since oscars are so popular we had a few 100+ gallon tanks of big ones. The tanks were setup on a iron shelf, one above the other with about a foot between.
So I was working one day, labeling tanks of new fish with the manager and we hear this scream and a splash. Turns out this woman has put her head in the open space between tanks to look straight down on the fish and a big oscar came up and bit her on the tip of the nose!
So she's gasping and holding her nose, and we do what anyone else would do; start laughing. She just wont calm down, so we apologize and go back to work. Her nose is just a little red, no blood or anything, but she screams at us. Why didnt we offer her first aid!?
So we get our first aid 'kit'; a box of waterproof bandaids and peroxide. She gets even more angry since we didnt bring her out some kind of EMT kit or call 911 or something, and starts screaming and swearing at us, leaves for a minute, comes back and screams at more employees and leaves.
So we think that's the end of it. But about half an hour later this police officer comes in. Turns out she's filed an assault charge! (we dont know if it was against the store, employees, or fish...). The cop's trying to keep a straight face since he has to investigate it, so he goes to the counter and says:
"Sir, I'm afraid you're going to have to show me the offending fish."
We took him back to the tank, with most of the customers following, told him about oscars, and he left. Never heard back from the police or wounded nose woman. But we sold the oscar a few minutes later!

Oscars rule. My brother had an Oscar and a Pirhana in the same tank, they got along pretty good, but the oscar was huge. The two fish were sadistic bastards though. they would bite the back off the feeder fish and leave the heads floating around. and they were greedy too, if my brother did'nt feed them for a while and then threw some feeders in there they wold both swallow like 5 fish at once and try to eat them all.
The crayfish thing, yeah, I'm not sure but I've been told that Oscars are related to bass and they love crayfish. I used to catch crayfish and throw them in the tank, there was one i caught that only had one claw and the oscar went after him but that one clawed bastard kicked the **** out of the Oscar.

Ive had Oscars on and off now since I was a teenager . When I was 17 I had a breeding pair and a cat . Anyway to make a long story short ,the cat opened the lid on the tank to go fishing ,and got caught itself an oscar ,I should say the oscar caught the cat .I had a very wet room and one pissed off cat .Score : Oscars 1 cat 0 .The cat never went near the tank again.

oscars are butt ugly fish, but their "personality" makes them pretty cool. arrogant bastards. when i get off my lazy @ss i'll take pics of mine. anyone know if they are related to pirrahna's? but easy to maintain, and fun to watch.

my ex-girlfriend had two huge ones in a tank. she went away for a week, and when she returned, one of the oscars had a HUGE piece of his back bitten out.

I've heard that Oscars have a tendency to commit suicide by jumping out of their tank. Thats what happened to my brother'sand I know of other people who've had Oscars and that happened.
