I have a 2002 midnight blue p5. My beef is that red p5s that I see have a smaller fender gap than me. This is with stock rims and stock springs on both and no extra weight. I also noticed a lower than mine silver p5.

Can someone explain this. There is a big difference. (1.5-2 inch)
They can't have different stock suspension.

unless your car is sitting like a 4x4, there's no way other cars are 1.5-2" lower than yours. from stock height on my midnight blue p5, i lowered it with a 1.5" drop on eibach springs. now the wheel well gap is a little under two fingers. before, i could get my whole hand in there. check to see how many fingers you can fit between the top of the tires to the fender. if it's more than 4 fingers, you might have a little highrider. if it's 4 fingers, you are at normal. anything less and your car is lowered.

 

I can fit four fingers in no sweat. Another thing is that my 17" rims that I have with a 40 offset don't rub. This a good thing but, I read that these should rub. I know that different tires have a role in it. I don't come close to rubbing.

Its an illusion...

If you put 17"s on with lower profile tires you eyes kind of trick you and make the car look lifted. Road and Track claims a **** load of research on this and says "If the tire profile is smaller than the wheel gap, you car will look lifted". I installed winter tires (only available in 205/50 16") on my stock wheels with the stock suspension. The car now looks lower I guess because of this same concept. The sidewall are slightly taller so are now a little closer in size to the wheel gap than before, making it "look" lower. Its not any different though.

Anyway when you lower your car, you will most likely rub in the rear. Cram some crap in the trunk and a pair of fat people in the back seats and drive around...I will be willing to bet it will scrape the tires...
