Why is my shifter rubbery after everything's warmed up?

My shifter gets rubbery at times. The weird thing is it happens when my transmission has been warmed up. I do 30 mins of highway driving everyday and right after I get off the highway I get the rubbery feeling. It returns to normal after the tranny has cooled off.

So far my tranny related mods:

*Redline MT90 fluid
*TWM short shifter
*Kartboy bushings
*Everything torqued to spec according to Mazda service manual.

Any thoughts?

Could be the bushings.

I bought some and have yet to install them. A short shift kit will certainly eliminate any free play in your shifter.

My shifter makes noises too...

I got the Kartboy short shifter and bushings. It's making a kinda squeky sound, also the throw is not as smooth, usually when it's warm. Why?

Question Short shifter

Well I was thinking of buingh a short shifter for my 2002 mp5 .... do i need the bushings too or can i just use the shifter?
also is there a big difference in taking off and racing being your shifter is shorter?

Firefly, do you mean the shifter gets limp and un-springy after a while? When i had my B&M it got all limp after a while of driving, and it was ANNOYING and CRAPPY....
I ended up taking the SS off cuz i think i might have installed it crappy...i might put it back on later when i have time and if i care enough....

I can't say it's limp...but it feels like the longer I drive the more resistance there is in the throw. It feels like something is dragging the shift rod. So in a way it's what you called "un-springy". If you have driven cars with a crappy cable shifter that's exactly how mine feels like. But everything returns to normal after I let it sit and cool off.

I installed my SS and bushings last week and I'm getting the same problems, sometimes it also gets very stiff after it's all warmed up. I'm thinking about taking it out, putting the stock one back in and take it for a spin just with the bushings, if it works fine then Ill lube the SS real good and reinstall it, maybe I didn't use enough grease on it.

How stiff are SS suposed to be? does it feel sometimes like you have to push/pull hard on it? like there's something in the way of the shifter.
