Protege vs. Accord V6

Does anyone know if any of the 3rd generation
Protege's can put up a decent race against a
2001 Honda Accord 4-Door V6?
Just wondering.

I'm asking because my brother just bought a
2001 that's an auto. It has MAD power to be
an automatic. It almost throws you in the back seat if your not holding on.

The accord V6 will win w/ out a doubt....

Now if it was a 4 banger accord vs. 4 banger protge..than it would be close!

Alright. Thanks.
Gah, I would give my left nut to have that car.
With a few mods added to it, it would be hella
fast. Wouldnt even need NOS or turbo.

The other day I was eating at an outside restaraunt when some guy in a V6 Accord went by FLYING. His car sounded so sweet that I'm sure he had somthin' going on under that hood!(intake? headers? A SYMPHONY?) I hate to admit it, but your brother will smoke your(and my) P5.

Maybe a Mazdaspeed Protege would keep up...

Yeah, his is all stock. He wants to get a spoiler for it.
I told him not to **** it up and make it look like all
the other ricers that own Hondas. I think he's just
gonna order a factory spoiler, which will probally make
it look best. Me thinks.

Eh, I dunno how fast they are... I used to hang out on maxima.org, and there's a lot of rivalrly between the maxima and the accord v6. The last model accord v6 only came in auto form, and even with heavy mods (i/h/e/y-pipe/cam gears/cams) the accord coupes were in very high 14s/low 15s.

I'm not sure how a heavier sedan, stock would do. It should still beat a protege pretty easily, though.

You want a fast family car on the cheap, buy a maxima. A '95-'99 maxima 5-spd can run in the 14s bone stock. C&D did a review of it in '95 when they were redesigned (4th gens) and they ran I think a 15.1 or something, which was quicker than the same year Mustang GT they tested. Quite funny The '02 and '03 maximas I've heard as low as 14.2 BONE STOCK! The only bad thing about the Maxs are they have low resale value for some reason, and the rear suspension is lame.

The real problem with the Hondas is...they don't have any torque!

A good launch will get them right off the bat. A V6 would end up overtaking a P5, but a 4-banger won't! (been there, done that-too many times to count)

My friend has a '02 GT-S... You are f'in right, they are torqueless... once it hits 6500 and lift kicks in, it pulls real nice though

However, now he has a kazuma exhaust... Added quite a bit of power, it pulls like mad up top now... Too bad it's the loudest (street legal) car I've ever heard.

From now on, can we cut the myths?

Only after you see them on the dyno...

I say to my Accord buddies..."race ya uphill!"

Accords' have torque. It's the Civics that are relatively not as torque as the Proteges. My mom has a Camry I4, my brother drives it now, and it pulls hard. I never managed to beat it in the Pro5.

Don't underestimate the power of large cars. Many people (I'm not referring to anyone in particular), think because they drive a smaller car they have a lightweight advantage, therefore they will be faster. What they don't realize is that their power to weight ratio is still much less than larger cars.

I saw a Lexus LS430, yup, a grandpa's car. floored from a stoplight once, and it was fast, faster than even a Integra Type R. The only way a Type R can launch faster than the LS430 is if it's a clutch drop launch done by a skiiled driver. The LS430 is auto.

Given the same launch technique, it may even be quicker than a WRX.
