I (thought) i had seen a coupla' of the Car & Driver (?) reviews that spelled out stats for cornering Gs and speed through the slaloms [sp?] for the P5 and they were *not too different* from a stock Miata...

True?

 

I don't know about that....but they are pretty damn good numbers...

I saw all the numbers you are looking for in a big chart in the back of either the July or August issue of Road and Track....or it was Car and Driver...I can't remember which....it was my nephews copy he had gotten while we were there on vacation this past summer....I really wish I had snagged that copy from him.....

as the chart was actually a list of the previous 258 cars/trucks that they had tested and had compliled all the data into one big chart.....

it was interesting that of those 258 cars/trucks....that there were only 38 that out performed the P-5 in the 600 foot salom.....there was NOTHING in our class, with the exception of the MP3, that could hang with us....and VERY MANY cars that cost as much as 4 and 5 times as much that we could still take in the twisties.....

the straights? well that is a TOTALLY different matter....but...lol

Also, although test numbers may come close to a Miata, that does NOT mean that a Pro handles like a Miata. There is more to handling than test numbers. The skidpad and slalom figures of a P5 may be close to an older stock Miata with the factory-installed 14" Bridgerock tires, but a Pro will never measure up if you compare the cars' overall balance, responsiveness, and precision. Raw numbers won't capture these characteristics, but they're the reasons why the Miata will out-handle almost anything on the road, including everything Mazda has ever made with the exception of the FD RX-7. [The RX-8 doesn't count, it's not out yet. ]

This may be a little outside your question, but I've owned 2 Miatas and I want to set the record straight.

 

Not to mention the slalom numbers are different for every test due to many different conditions, mainly the road conditions, tire condition and most importantly, how the driver drives it and his/her skill level.
