Question Help Me!

Me, being the stupid idiot that I am, decided that a three-cylinder Subaru Justy would make a perfect winter beater. Wow, was I ever wrong. Every time I drive it, I drive non-defensive, in the hopes that someone will crash into me, therefore rendering my car a write-off an me collecting money from the insurance. I don't think this plan is going to work all that well, so I'm going to try and sell the car.

I've always wanted a 323. They're light, fun to drive, and can have numerous engines swapped in... ooooor can they? Which engines are an easy swap for this little beast? I want power, but I don't want too much power as this will be the car I use for work (Domino's Pizza delivery) so that rules out the KLZE... what about the Escort's DOHC 1.8 liter (BPD?)?

If I'm not mistaken, the 323 transmission will work with any Mazda B-series engine? Which means I don't need to mess around with the shift linkages and axles.

I know Mazda's well, and I know how to swap an engine (see username) so I gotzzzz da mAd skillz to do this.

Thanks.

I am doing that exact swap right now. I have a '91 323 and got a BPD from a '95 Escort GT. As far as I have been told, it is pretty much a bolt-in swap and requires no modifications other than to the wiring harness if you want to use the stock one. And the stock transmission can be used with the BPD but if you are thinking of major tuning and modifications like a turbo or something, then the Escort or Protege GT tranny is recommended since the stock one would not last long under that kind of power. In its stock form, the tranny should be fine. Check out www.geocities.com/manuelgdz/ He did this same swap with his '90 323 and it seems like it should be pretty easy. Mine is almost ready for the swap.

323 (soon to be a 1.8L DOHC 323)

I still want to know what exaclty id needed for the KL swap. I have heard you need to get the MX3 GS subframe among other things from the MX3 GS. But I have also been told its a highly copmlicated job requiring massive amounts of cutting and welding. Anybody care to shed some light??? ( I know about a-spec and have read their info, so dont give me the link )
