Thumbs up snow pro

We got about 7 inches in Philly. You would have thought the world was going to end. People forget that we live in the Northeast and are supposed to get snow. Anyway, my pro handled the snow like a champ. I was very impressed with its behavior in the slick stuff.

Do the folks up north and in Canada feel the same way?

My 91 DX was fine in the snow even with the lousy OEM
Bridgestone tires. With a set of Arctic Alpins now, it is a champ in the snow.

We got around 7 inches and i think my car does fine .. I go out at night when it snows just to rip the ebrake and do donuts :-) .. i drove 25 miles home in 4 inches of unplowed snow. passed a few wrecked cars on the highway ( 2 civics and a nissan) and only had troble going up a very steep hill because a school bus stopped on the hill and made everyone( except 4x4suvs and such) get stuck...Jon 93 lx

agreed, my pro handled abusolutly (sp) awsome, as my first winter with the pro i had worrys but they quickly vanished when i came home from work, climed the big hill to my house with no spin, unless i wanted it too

Yup I'm amazed how well the Protege does in the snow. Even better with the skinny-*** DX tires (175's). Learn how to use your e-brake for more than fun and you will be rewarded even more.

My old CRX would get stuck in an inch of snow and my old Beretta...we won't even go there.

I don't know why you guys all seem to think the pro handles so well in the snow. Sure with snow tires its pretty good, but compared to other cars with equal tire setups, I find the pro to be aweful in the snow!

The proteges are good but could use like a 100 pounds of weights in the engine bay for better traction ..Jon

my pro is absolutely horrible even with new winter tires, there just isnt enough wait over the front wheels to produce traction, i dont remember who said it but more weight in the engine bay would be more then useful, but somethin practical , like TURBO!!!!!!!!!!!! or a nice phat v6 engine !

Maybe it's the driver! j/k

We are expecting a little snow in Philadelphia today and tomorrow. I just washed and waxed. I don't want to go out and screw it all up.

We only got slush here in S. Jersey but so far, my Protege DX has been good in the wet and snow.

That photo was taken at Jay Peak, VT last winter. It's hard to tell in the picture, but the frozen crud on the doors was actually almost 4" thick! It was the result of driving like a bastard on back roads in northern VT for three hours in a blizzard. Right now, I have Blizzaks on the front but Michelin all-seasons on the rear. It goes fine in snow and ice, but the handling is a little interesting. A quick flick ofthe wheel gets the car completely sideways with no braking necessary. Also, on hard braking, the rear wheels lock up long before the fronts, which can lead too some nasty fishtailing. This morning I tried braking hard on a hard packed, icy snow and ended up heading backwards at about 50mph. I didn't hit anything, but I'm starting to think seriously about springing for a second pair of Blizzaks for the rear.
