Get a VooDoo ****:

http://teamvoodoo.com/

they were originally designed for the Miata, but they work just fine on the Protege. I have a polished magnum ****, with a custom shift boot, and I get compliments all the time. Very nice product, great support from the owner of the company, and it screws on to the stock shifter.

If I had a digital camera, I would post pics, but I don't...

Oh yeah, no afiliation what so ever, just a satisfied customer.

After having a Momo shift **** in my car, all i can say is: if it doesn't screw in...then DO NOT BY ALL MEANS BUY IT!!!! It made my shifter feel like such **** when i had my momo b/c the way you secure the **** is retarded.

You have to get a rubber grommet sorta thing and put it in teh ****, then push VERY HARD down on the lever to get it to slide into place. After that you secure the bottom part of the **** to the shifter lever with 3 hex screws that scratched the **** out of my stock shifter lever, rendering it impossible to ever screw on my stock ****.

I have my momo **** and boot currently on ebay after a year of hellish feeling shifting......i love teh way my stock **** feels now that I have it back in .
I have a Momo Aluminum **** on my car, came with it from the dealer. Constantly loosening up. (uses 3 hex head bolts) I used blue Locktite to lock it on. no problems 8 months. Love the feel.

I have an ichibahn know on mine that is aluminum and black leather. It uses the 3 screws and they have worked their way loose once in the three weeks its been on. I don't have threads on my shifter however since i have performed the short shifter mod.

I don't know anyone who has a die nut set with the size i need. The last time I bought a die nut it was over $100. I needed to re-thread my wheel hub.
