Quick (Cheap) HP Increase? 95 LX

Hi guys,

I'm wondering what options are available to get a few extra horses out of my 95 LX w/ AT. I would love to drop in the larger 1.8 DOHC engine and convert it to manual, but that's only a dream.

I've been thinking of a K&N performance filter and custom intake --- But someone I spoke to suggested I go with the filter but NOT replace the intake since it's fine-tuned to get the best out of my car specifically. Opinions? What kind of HP increase should I expect? I've got a wimpy (Although peppy) 92hp DOHC... I despise the auto transmission, but I'm stuck with it (Unless someone has ideas?

Also, on a side note, does this product look like it could work? It just looks like a hot air blower......

there is a ractive intake for 90 at autotoys.com and i'm selling my K&N filter and recharge kit for $20. Also you can get a perfomance muffler installed for around 100 and you get a couple extra hp there. after that it gets a bit more expensive. there is a company that sells perfomance headers, heads, pistons, and a few other things but that is gonna cost a lot. There is also NOS, and two people are currently working ona turbo project specifically for our engine.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I'll check out autotoys and see what they have -- Thanks.

Do you know the name of the company that is researching the turbo kits for our engines? Any idea how far along they are or how much we'll be looking at and what kind of gains?

I may hit a local junk yard and see if they have any 1.8s on hand... I may get lucky and find one in good condition. From what I understand, it's just a drop in replacement (I'll probably need a new computer/chip, no?)

ahh! under no surcumstances buy that blower, its a bilge blower for boats, if you put it in your intake the fins can break off at high rpm and ruin your engine! ahhh!

look at this auction here! i was thinking about one of these untill i saw this, then i went to west marine and saw it was the same exact thing for 20 bucks!
