OK i have tried, again and again to remove my stock cd player but i couldn't do it. I have only scrached the surface and dented the plastic. Luckly the trim covers these marks. After searching on the net I came across a site that explained that I had to use a "Ford Radio Tool" to remove the stock cd. Here is what it looks like:



Then, someone on the forums here suggested that I could use paper clips....sigh even that doesn't work. Im in Toronto and I dont know where I can buy this tool....

any other ideas?

Hmm, you could try the ford dealer or even some car audio stores.

I am nearly 100% positive I know what your problem is...you are sticking the tools in the wrong holes...and why I say this is the fact that the tools you show in that picture...well yes they are ford tools...and yes our tools are in deed the same as SOME fords....but if you measure between the tips of THOSE tools you will find the distance to be about 1 5/8 inches....OURS neet to be nearly 4 inches. SO, by using the tools you have pictured you are only releasing half of the clips...you are surely inserting the tools into either the TOP or BOTTOM holes and the hole that is not round but oblong in the center of the unit, and you need to be inserting the tools into the TOP AND BOTTOM ROUND holes

....here is a picture of our stock deck...and the PROPER holes you need to be inserting the tools into.

 

You can buy these tools at Pep Boys, or use wire coat hanger just cut two small pieces and bend them into a u shape.

Jokes aside, what you should do is to pull on the deck one side at a time (using 2 of those ford removal tools, so you get the top AND bottom clips on the side you're working on). Once you have it out a little (so the clips don't fall back in place), work on the other side.

 

LOL those tools are stupid.. just get a really stiff coat hanger.. get cutters/pliers w/ cutters and make your own!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you can even paint the homemade tools red with a type R sticker for more HP

Its exactly like that, by itself. And look at those instructions. Im gonna try the coat hanger.

 

I had hell getting my stock HU out! Good luck with it. However, I did have the double din stereo. I wish I got a DIN pocket for free like u. :-)

 

If you are still having issues, a couple comments:

1) Make sure that when you insert the tools, you push them in just until they click. There should be a notch on the end of the tools, make sure the notches are on the INSIDE towards the deck.
2) Push OUT on the tools (away from the deck). The tools rest on the outside of the clips, so pressing the ends of the tools outward will compress the clips in.
3) I don't know about your deck, but the double din deck on the P5 has a rubber post in a bracket at the back that is a fairly snug friction fit, making the deck sit fairly firmly in place even when you get the clips undone.

If you have done all this already, I don't know what else to say. If not, then good luck

Same deck was in my 93 MX-6. I used coat hanger, it works every time. I had a shop for 15 years and the ford tools were not available, so you have to improvise.

 

you guy are right, i took one of my mom's hangers cut with my plyers and bent em into a U shape and 'click' 'click' the deck came out!!! Thanks a lot
