Just a real quick picture of my engine, after getting it powder coated. I'll put the better pictures up later on...

And yes I'm changin the color of the intake tubing to red, once I find someone who sells them...

I actually got it done for free, because I knew the guy who does it, but to get both done, he charges $175 (heat shield is powder coated on both sides).

Thats Canadian funds btw, so USD your looking at around $110

What are the different types of power coating? Is there a particular type to ask for when getting the engine parts painted, since its a high-heat application? I would also like to get my brake calipers powder coated also. One of the companys in the corporation that I work for powder coats alternating thread stairs. Maybe I can get them to do it for me

Powder coating is a wicked process. The paint is sprayed on, but it "sticks" to the material you are painting by using different electrical charges. Ive had the chance to see this in action, and its pretty cool. If you stick your hand into a drum of powder coating paint, it feels very cold and wet (yet it isnt wet at all). After the paint is sprayed on, it baked in an oven. So yes, it is baked on, but im sure you can get it off.

Here is the definition of powder coating from www.powdercoating.org

" Powder coating is an advanced method of applying a decorative and protective finish to a wide range of materials and products that are used by both industries and consumers. The powder used for the process is a mixture of finely ground particles of pigment and resin, which is sprayed onto a surface to be coated. The charged powder particles adhere to the electrically grounded surfaces until heated and fused into a smooth coating in a curing oven. The result is a uniform, durable, high-quality, and attractive finish. Powder coating is the fastest-growing finishing technology in North America, representing over 10% of all industrial finishing applications."

Hey Amish

The yellow P5 in the post that spikeyC posted was mine and I got the powder caoting done for both of us so it was cheaper all around. I also spoke to the paint guy and he said the coating is good to around 230°C so I think it would be okay for calipers.

I also asked about powder coating a valve cover and 4 calipers and he said an approximate price would be around $140-160 CDN. The minimum on the valve cover alone would be $80 CDN.

I'm a little suspect with the calipers, if they get as hot as the heat cover (which I doubt) then the paint may change color.

Already my heat cover is starting to rust a tiny bit, or get brown around the bottom bolt... and its lookin ugly, and it can't be cleaned off..
